From Hit to Miss: Mohanlal's Sequel Misadventures

It is a sequel to the highly successful comedy film 'Kilukkam' released in 1991. However, unlike its predecessor, 'Kilukkam Kilikulukkam' failed to replicate the charm and success of the original film. The storyline revolves around the comedic misadventures of various characters, played by actors like Jayasurya, Kavya Madhavan, and Kunchacko Boban, as they get entangled in a series of misunderstandings and chaotic situations. Despite having a star-studded cast and attempting to recreate the magic of the original film, 'Kilukkam Kilikulukkam' received negative reviews from critics and audiences alike, ultimately resulting in its failure at the box office. Released in 2013, 'Geethanjali,' a horror-comedy film directed by Priyadarshan, unfortunately, failed to make a mark at the box office despite its unique blend of horror and comedy. Notably, several reports pointed out similarities between 'Geethanjali' and Fazil's successful film 'Manichithrathazhu' in terms of storyline. 'Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded,' directed by Amal Neerad and starring Mohanlal, garnered significant anticipation due to the success of its predecessor, 'Irupatham Noottandu.' However, despite boasting a strong star cast and high production values, the film received a mix of negative reviews from both critics and audiences. Failing to live up to the standards set by its predecessor, it ultimately fell short at the box office, resulting in its classification as a flop within the Malayalam film industry.

Directed by Major Ravi, 'Kandahar' marks the third installment in the Major Mahadevan film series. Mohanlal reprises his role as Major Mahadevan, following his appearances in the 2006 film 'Keerthi Chakra' and the 2008 film 'Kurukshetra.' Despite the anticipation surrounding the film due to its connection to the successful franchise, it failed to resonate with audiences. Despite the strong presence of Mohanlal and the direction of Major Ravi, the movie fell short of expectations, failing to make a significant impact on viewers.
