The film is based on the real-life story of Sukumara Kurup, a fugitive on the run since 1984, portrayed by Dulquer Salmaan. It shows how Kurup is winning each of these stages, for the real-life criminal did manage to escape every time the police were on the verge of catching him. Kurup’ is the biggest investment film of Dulquer's career.The film directed by Srinath Rajendran, featuring  Dulquer Salmaan, Sobhita Dhulipala, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Tovino Thomas in the lead roles has made a gross of Rs 100 crores at the box-office.

Dulquer Salmaan, who played the legendary actor Gemini Ganesan in 2018 Telugu biopic 'Mahanati' had received the critical appreaciation from the audience as well as critics.
