Teri Meri Kahaani fails to break Mausam’s first day collection record

Director Kunal Kohli's latest venture Teri Meri Kahaani has opened to an average response at the Box Office on Friday. The movie has raked in Rs 5.5 crores. With this, the movie has beaten this week's another release Gangs of Wasseypur, which has scored Rs 3.03 at the collection centres across the country on the first day.

Teri Meri Kahaani is one of the most expected romantic thrillers of 2012. And it was expected to break the first day collection record of Shahid Kapoor's last release Mausam, which had collected Rs. 7 crores at Box Office on the first day of its release. But the film has failed to beat this outstanding collection record.

Unlike Mausam, the Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer movie registered 35% to 40% occupancy in both multiplexes and single screens across the country. The exciting romantic thriller managed to collect Rs 5.5 crores at Box office on the first day. It has to show a big jump in its business in the coming days, if it needs to fetch a decent numbers.

However, Teri Meri Kahaani has received an excellent opening at the overseas Box Office. The movie has scored Rs 2.20 crores from the collection centres in UK, UAE, Australia and New Zealand. The movie's collection from the US Box Office is yet to be revealed. If it is included, the movie might beat the international collection record of Mausam, which had grossed Rs 7.5 crores at the foreign Box office in the first weekend.

Teri Meri Kahaani was released on Thursday, June 21 in Australia and UAE and it has collected 1,768,997 (A$ 30,773) and 15,044,900 (AED 970,000) respectively in these country on Thursday and Friday. The movie has raked in Rs 4,908,360 (£ 55,225) and Rs 283,509 (NZ$ 6,279) from the collection centres respectively in UK and New Zealand, where it was released on Friday.
