The
much
awaited
Film
Festival
of
the
year,
68th
Festival
De
Cannes
is
going
to
kick
start
today.
While
we
are
gearing
up
to
see
uncountable
images
on
social
media
shared
by
celebrities
present
at
the
French
Rivera,
reports
of
selfie-ban
just
killed
our
excitement.
Following
Met
Gala
2015's
'selfie
ban'
and
no
social
media
usage
during
the
event,
Cannes
Festival
director
Thierry
Frémaux
has
put
a
ban
on
selfies
at
the
red
carpet
of
the
prestigious
Film
Festival.
Thierry
Frémaux
even
went
ahead
to
call
the
selfies
"ridiculous
and
grotesque."
"You
never
look
as
ugly
as
you
do
in
a
selfie," Frémaux
told
the
media
during
an
April
press
conference
announcing
the
2015
festival
film
lineup.

Clicking
selfies
with
fans
and
friends
on
the
red
carpet
is
nothing
unusual.
"Everyone
does
it.
I've
seen
big
stars
do
it
because
it's
the
first
time
they've
been
there
and
they
want
to
remember
it,"
says
movie
database
IMDb.com
managing
editor
Keith
Simanton.
"But
I
understand
festival
organizers
want
to
keep
the
highest
level
of
decorum
and
class."
Marie-Pierre
Hauville,
director
of
communications
for
the
festival
said,
"In
order
to
make
it
all
work
smoothly,
we
cannot
accept
people
blocking
the
ceremony
for
their
own
purposes," highlighting
the
festival's
focus
on
films,
filmmakers
and
artists
and
not
the
red
carpet
glam.

said,
"I'm
not
a
big
selfie
guy,
anyway
-
I'm
not
that
concerned.
It's
not
like,
'Oh,
no,
all
those
selfies
I
was
going
to
take.
What
a
disaster!'"
