World Music Day: All Time Best Music Directors of Kannada Films

World Music Day is being celebrated on 21 June since 1982 in France. It is also known as Fête de la Musique and is an annual music festival taking place on this day in the major cities around the world. The main purpose of this celebration is to spread peace and promote harmony among the people.

On this occasion, we would like to remember those musicians who took Kannada music industry to new heights, the music directors, who brought best out of singers, technicians and lived in the memories of the audience forever.

Note: The music directors are randomly organised.

TG Lingappa
TG Lingappa was a popular music director in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu movies. He had composed for more than 50 Kannada movies. Some of his famous Sandalwood were: Babruvahana, Shri Krishna Devaraya, Sipayi Raamu and Bhaktha Prahlada.

M Ranga Rao
M Ranga Rao was one of the popular star composers of his times. He was often credited for introducing legendary SP Balasubramaniam to film industry in 1967 with Nakkare Ade Swarga.

He had composed music for more than 60 Kannada films. Some of his popular hits were: Sakshatkara, Kaviratna Kalidasa, Edakallu Guddada Mele, Ranganayaki, Hosa Belaku, Bandhana and Shravana Banthu.

Vijaya Bhaskar

Vijaya Bhaskar

Legendary music director Vijaya Bhaskar composed music for more than 550 movies in South Indian languages. He scored music for 150+ films in Kannada alone.

Some of his popular soundtracks include Rani Honnamma, Santha Thukaram, Gejje Pooje, Mana Mechida Madadi, Belli Moda, Naandi, Sharapanjara, Naagarahaavu, Sakshatkara, Shubhamangala, Neela and Malaya Marutha.

Sankar Ganesh

Sankar Ganesh

Music duo Sankar Ganesh had worked in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu languages. They together composed music for more than 500 movies. Mariya My Darling, Chakravyuha, Anand are some of their popular albums.

Ghantasala

Ghantasala

Ghantasala was a singer as well as music director. He was popular in Telugu and Kannada films. To name a few, Veerakesari and Valmiki were his hit albums.

Ilaiyaraaja

Ilaiyaraaja

Ilaiyaraaja has been a prominent music composer in South Indian cinema since late 1970. He tasted success in all the Southern film industries and he is regarded as a living legend. Geetha, Barjari Bete, Pallavi Anupallavi and Nammura Mandhara Hoove were some of his notable albums.

Upendra Kumar

Upendra Kumar

Upendra Kumar was a popular composer in Kannada and Orissa film industries. He had composed over 200 films in multiple languages.

Premada Kanike, Anuraga Aralitu, Sipayi Ramu, Ratha Sapthami, Nanjundi Kalyana, Jeeva Chaitra and Apporva Sangama are some of his popular hit albums. It is interesting to note that his most of the songs from Dr Rajkumar's film became chartbusters.

Rajan-Nagendra

Rajan-Nagendra

Music directors duo Rajan-Nagendra was unmatchable combo at their times. They composed music for over 350 films.

Gandada Gudi, Auto Raja, Bayalu Daari, Bhagyavantharu, Chalisuva Modagalu, Chandanada Gombe and Eradu Kanasu are some of his popular musical compositions.

Pendyala Nageswara Rao

Pendyala Nageswara Rao

Pendyala Nageswara Rao was a popular musician in Telugu and Kannada films. He introduced singer P Susheela and worked in 100+ films. Satya Harishchandra and Sri Krishna Gaarudi were some of his popular albums.

GK Venkatesh

GK Venkatesh

GK Venkatesh was a prominent music composer in Kannada cinema during the 1960s, 1970s and until late 1980s. He composed music for 51 films in which Dr Rajkumar played the lead role. He launched Dr Rajkumar as a singer in the film Ohileshwara (song: Sharanu Shambho) and also recorded Dr Rajkumar's first duet in Mahishasura Mardhini.

Sandhya Raga, Kasturi Nivasa, Bangarada Manushya, Mayura and Sanaadi Appanna are some of his popular albums.

Hamsalekha

Hamsalekha

Hamsalekha is refereed as the man, who brought a new trend in Sandalwood music with his lively and catchy musical compositions. Unlike his contemporaries, he wrote lyrics for his albums.

His association with Ravichandran brought out the best from him. Prem Loka, Ranadheera and Shanti Kranthi are some of his popular albums. He has scored music for more than 250 films.

Gurukiran

Gurukiran

Gurukiran shot to fame with Upendra's A. He has composed music for 80+ films and considered as one of the best music directors of the present times.

He was the second option in the late 90s and 2000s after Hamsalekha virtually concentrated on his music school.
