Bhavatharini, maestro Ilaiyaraaja's only daughter who died undergoing ayurvedic treatment in Sri Lanka, was brought back to her home in Gudalur, Theni of Tamil Nadu.

Bhavatharini died during her treatment for cancer on January 25. After the news broke out, the family members, relatives, friends, colleagues, and the Kollywood fraternity expressed their shock and condolences.

Bhavatharini dabbled in acting and was also a singer who had a peculiar voice and pitch. She turned music director and composed music for a film that was directed by actress Revathi. The movie is called Mitr, My Friend, which was released in 2002 featuring actress Shobhana. She later composed music for a Telugu film titled 'Avuna' (2003). 'Phir Milenge' starring Shilpa Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, and Salman Khan was her Bollywood project and her last music directorial is for 'Vellachi,' a project based on rural regions.

Bhavathirini is the youngest of the three to Ilaiyaraaja. Musician Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja are her brothers. She first rendered her voice for a song in the movie Raasaiyya. In 1984, she sang a Malayalam song titled 'Thithithey Thaalam' from the movie 'My Dear Kuttuchathan.' From then on, she sang so many compositions under her father and brother Yuvan Shankar Raja. Bhavathirini was also the winner of a National Award for the song 'Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu' from the movie Bharathi, which was conferred for the year 2001.

Maayanadhi, a Tamil film which was released in 2019 was her last film as a music director. She sang 'Pannapurathu' song from Maamanithan, Vadivelu and Udayanidhi Stalin-starrer which was her last.

Her mortal remains were put on display before the funeral procedures took place. Those who are mourning her loss turned up to pay their last respects. Bhavatharini was 47 and is survived by her husband, R Sabariraj. Sabariraj is the son of S N Ramachandran, who is a former journalist and owns an advertising agency. Sabariraj works as a advertising executive. Before her death, Bhavatharini was reportedly undergoing some ayurvedic treatment for a cancer variant in Sri Lanka. Her funeral will take place at her residence in Gudalur on Saturday.
