Chittajallu Krishnaveni (24 December 1924 – 16 February 2025) was a pioneering Indian actress, playback singer, and producer in Telugu cinema. Born in Pangidi, West Godavari district, she began her career in theatre and debuted as a child actor in Sati Anasuya (1936). By 1939, after moving to Chennai, she married zamindar Mirzapuram Raja and took charge of Sobhanachala Studios, producing landmark films like Bhakta Prahlada (1942) and Mana Desam (1949), which introduced legends such as N.T. Rama Rao, Ghantasala, and P. Leela.
Krishnaveni also acted in over 40 classic films including Kacha Devayani, Dakshayagnam, Gollabhama, and Brahma Ratham. Beyond acting and producing, she lent her voice as a playback singer—most notably as the first to sing the Annamayya Keerthana “Jo Achyutananda…” on-screen. For her extraordinary contributions to Telugu cinema, she was honored with the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award in 2004. Krishnaveni passed away at age 100 in Hyderabad on 16 February 2025.
