Dinesh Mangaluru Biography

Dinesh Mangaluru was an Indian actor and art director who primarily worked in the Kannada and Tulu film industries. He rose to fame with his notable role in the KGF franchise and went on to appear in several blockbuster Kannada films, earning recognition for his versatile performances.


Early Life, Theatre Background & Personal Life


Dinesh Mangaluru was born on January 1, 1970, in Mangaluru, Karnataka. He completed his schooling at Government High School in Kollur. Known also by his name Dinesh Mangalore, he carried a deep-rooted love for theatre and began his acting journey on stage before transitioning to films. He was married to Bharathi Pai and is survived by two sons—Surya Siddhartha and Sajan Pai.


Film Career as Actor & Art Director


Dinesh made his film debut in the politically charged Kannada drama Aasphota (1988), which earned the Best Film award at the 36th Filmfare Awards South. Over the years, he delivered notable performances in films such as Nagamandala (1996), Z (1999), Smile (1999), and Aa Dinagalu (2007), where he played Seetharam Shetty. His roles in Attahasa (2013), Ulidavaru Kandanthe (2014), and Rana Vikrama (2015) showcased his versatility as an actor.

Dinesh gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Shetty in the pan-India blockbuster sequels K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018) and K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022). He also worked alongside his son in films such as Senapura and Days of Borapura. As an art director, Dinesh contributed to successful Kannada films like Chandramukhi Pranasakhi (1999), Veera Madakari (2009), and Vriksham (The Tree) (2019).


Theatre & Other Contributions


Before stepping into films, Dinesh honed his craft in the theatre—a foundation that informed both his acting and design sensibilities. His stage experience deeply influenced his nuanced performances and his attention to visual storytelling in both roles and art direction.


Death


Tragically, Dinesh Mangaluru passed away early in the morning on August 25, 2025, in Kundapura. He had been battling health issues for several years. His untimely demise has left a void in the Kannada film and theatre communities.
