Jayaram is an Indian film actor (malayalam) born on  10 December 1965. His original name is Jayaram Subramaniam and he was born into a Tamil speaking Kerala Iyer family in Perumbavoor, Kerala. He completed his bachelor's degree from Sri Sankara College, Kaladi. During that time, he won several awards in the state level for mimicry. He is married to actress Parvathy, and their son Kalidasan is a child film artist who won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist in 2003. Jayaram also has a daughter, Malavika. The family lives in Chennai and Cochin.

He joined Kalabavan, a professional mimicry troupe in Kochi aAfter college, after his graduation, At the age of 23, he got the break through into cinema field by script writer and filmmaker Padmarajan with the film Aparan. Jayaram subsequently acted in Padmarajan's Moonnam Pakkam and Innale. He is noted for playing in Kamal's films, in films such as Pradeshika Vaarthakal, Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal, and Shubha Yathra, where he co-starred with his wife Parvathy. He later did a film scripted by Ranjith with the story by Jagathy Sreekumar, Viji Thampi's directional debut Witness. He teamed up with Viji Thampi and Ranjith in Nanma Niranjavan Srinivasan. During the early 90s he acted in Bharathan's Keli and Malootty.

He has acted in several Sathyan Anthikkad films in which their first film was Ponn Muttyidunna Tharavu. Around that time Jayaram played a supporting role in Sathyan Anthikkad's Ardham, Thalayanamanthram and Sandesham, were both written and co-starring by Sreenivasan. Anthikkad and Jayaram again joined hands towhich went on to make Thooval Kottaram, Irattakuttikalude Achan, Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal, Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal, Yathrakarude Sradhakku, and Manassinakkare. He co-starred with Mammootty and Suresh Gopi in Joshi's Dhruvam. Other films with Gopi include Viji Thampi's Nagarangalil Chennu Raparkam, Thooval Sparsam, Jayaraj's Paithrukam, and Sibi Malayil's Summer in Bethlehem. He co-starred with Mohanlal in Ulsavapittennu, Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal and Advaitham.

His association with director Rajasenan created many movies such as Kadinjool Kalyanam, Ayalathe Addeham, Meleparambil Aanveedu, CID Unnikrishnan B.A., B.Ed., Aniyan Bava Chetan Bava, Aadyathe Kanmani, Swapna Lokathe Balabhaskaran, and Kadhanayakan. He also played Aravindan in Siddique's Friends in which he co-starred with Sreenivasan and Mukesh. In the first decade of the 21st century his films include Yathrakarude Sradhakku, Manassinakkare, Veruthe Oru Bharya, and Twenty:20. His roles include Karunakaran in B Kannan's Theerthadanam and Lonappan in Rajeev Kumar's Sesham.

He also proved to be good actor in Tamil cinemas including roles in Gokulam, Purushalakshanam, Priyanka, Kolangal, Murai Mamman and Pathini. He played the roles of Dr. Kailash and as Ayyappan Nair in Kamal Haasan starred Thenali and Panchathanthiram. They first came together on screen in Chanakyan. Recently he has done more supporting roles in Tamil, such as roles in Saroja and Dhaam Dhoom, and Aegan.

His movies in mid 2000s include Manassinakkare, Njaan Salperu Raman Kutty, Finger Print, Alice in Wonderland, Madhuchandralekha, Moonnamathoral, and Anchil Oral Arjunan. In mid-2008, he played in Veruthe Oru Bharya. He had a couple of hits in 2009 like   Bhaghyadevatha and Happy Husbands. In 2010 he again teamed up with Sathyan Anthikkadu for Kadha Thudarumwhich became hit again. In 2011 he acted in movies such as 4 Friends, Make Up Man, China Town, Ponner Sankar, Menaka Talkies and Panchamritham
