Biography

Jayaram is an Indian film actor who mainly works in Malayalam and Tamil industries. He is one of the finest actors in Malayalam Cinema after legendary actors like Mammotty and Mohanlal. He began his acting career life in the late 1980s and has acted in over 300 movies. He has received several awards, including Padma Shri, Kerala State Film Awards, and Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Also known for his best films like Friends,Veendum Chila Veettukaaryangal, Kochchu Kochchu Santhoshangal, Superman, Aadhyathe Kanmani ,Swapnalokathe Balabhaskaran .   Personal Life Jayaram Subramaniyam known as Jayaram, was born in Perumbavoor, Kerala to Subramaniyam Iyer and Thankam. He has two siblings, a sister named Manjula and a brother named Venkit Ram, who died at a young age. After completing his schooling at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Perumbavur, later he graduated from Sri Sankara College, Kaladi. Actor Jayaram married actress Parvathy in 1992 and have two children,a son Kalidasan who is also an actor, and a daughter, Malavika Jayaram.   Career Actor Jayaram stepped into the film industry as a mimicry artist. He made his first debut in the Malayalam film industry with 'Aparan' , a mystery film directed by Iconicfilmmakerr Padmarajan in 1988. In the film, Jayaram plays the dual role of protagonist and antagonist at the same time. The film attained critical appreciation and it was a commercial success and one of the best classic movies in Malayalam. Later he became part of Director Kamal's films such as Pradeshika Vaarthakal, Peruvannapurathe Visheshanga, and Shubha Yathra. In 1990 the film 'Shubha Yatra' was released and actors Jayaram and Parvathy appeared in front of the audience in the lead role.  It was one of the most popular films in Malayalam. After spending time together on sets, the couple like Parvathy and Jayaram fell in love and took the plunge in real. The actor bagged his first Kerala Film Award for Special Jury Category for the film 'Thooval Kottaram in 1996. After that, he acted with many superstars in Malayalam Industry like Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Dileep and Sreenivasan, and many more. Summer in Bethlehem (1998) and Friends (1999) are the best-known movies of his during the 90's. He became popular among audiences through the characters in the films like Aravindan in 'Friends' and Ravishankar in 'Summer in Bethlehem. The two films were declared a super hit and gained critical appreciation from the audience. From here, the actor became a popular star in the Malayalam film industry. Jayaram -Sathyan Anthikkad, is one of the best-ever combinations in the Malayalam Film industry, they made blockbuster hit films like Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal, Yathrakarude Sradhakku , Ente Veedu Appuvinteyum and Bhagyadevatha . Apart from acting in Malayalam Films, he has also acted in Tamil Film Industry. He made his supporting roles in commercial hit films like Kolaya Mundhirika, Thuppakki, and Uttama Villain. As a huge fan of Tamil Actor Kamal Hassan, Jayaram shared screen space with him in the film'Thennali' in 2000 and Panchathanthiram in 2002. After doing serious characters in films, Jayaram has acted in hilarious roles in the film such as Meleparambil Aanveedu, Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal, Chakkikotha Chankaran, CID Unnikrishnan B.A, B.Ed.The movies were commercial hits and made the audience laugh the most. In 2011, Jayaram appeared in the films such as Makeup Man, along with comic roles in Seniors and Chinatown. The movies were declared commercial hit. Later he acted in the films like Adupuliyattam , Pattabhiraman. He was last seen in the blockbuster film Ponniyan Selvan-1. Jayaram is not an actor only, he is also a playback singer in the Malayalam Film Industry. His debut as a playback singer was for the 1997 film 'Kadhanayakan'. Later he has sung songs for the films such as 'Ente Veedu Appoontem and Aadupuliyattam. Other than acting, he is known to be a Mimicry artist and Chenda Percussionist. Jayaram entered the film industry through mimicry shows and he made his first debut in the film 'Aparan, directed by Iconic filmmaker Padmarajan. Besides acting he is an excellent percussionist, who used to find his time to perform 'Chenda' at temple festivals and celebrations. He is one of the actors in the Malayalam film industry, who plays the role of percussionist in reels and real life. Awards & Recognition Jayaram has received several awards and critical appreciation for his performance in the film industry. He won Kerala State Government Film Awards for Special Jury Category for the film 'Thooval Kottaram(1996), and the Best Actor Award for the film 'Swayamvara Pantha'. In 2011 the actor received Padma Shri from the Government of India for his incredible contribution to the Indian Film Industry.
