Shalini Biography

Shalini is a south Indian film actress who debuted in the Malayalam movie Ente Mamattikkuttiyammakku, alongside Bharath Gopi and Superstar Mohanlal at the age of three. She had a short but successful career as a child artiste.She returned to the industry in another Malayalam Movie Aniyathi Pravu and became a star. Her pairing with Kunchacko Boban in Malayalam was a big hit.

Career
She started acting at the age of 3 appearing in the film Ente Mamattikkuttiyammakku in 1983 for which she won the Kerala State Award for Best Child Artiste. As a child artiste, Shalini has completed over 80 films in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. Shalini made her debut as a heroine in the Malayalam movie Aniyathi Pravu which was remade in Tamil as Kadhalukku Mariyadhai - a box-office hit. Mani Ratnam cast her opposite Madhavan in Alaipayuthey. She also acted with Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi in a Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari. After her marriage to actor Ajith, she left the film industry.

Although her mother tongue is Malayalam, she speaks fluent Tamil.

Shalini is set to make a cameo with her husband, Ajith, in a documentary film about St. Thomas Mount to be released in 2010.

Personal life
She was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India into a Roman Catholic household to Sharaf Babu and Alice Sharaf Babu. Shalini has a younger sister - Shamili - who was a child actress as well. She did her schooling from Fatima Mat. Hr. Sec School,Adarsh Vidyalaya,Chennai and Church Park, Chennai. On January 3, 2008, Ajith and Shalini were blessed with a baby girl named Anoushka. Her brother Richard is also an actor.Her younger sister Shamili is making a comeback into the South Indian film industry.

Interests
In 2006, Shalini revealed her passion for badminton and has played in a few state level tournaments. She also loves Michael Jackson music.
