Prappeda Story

'Prappeda' is a Malayalam movie directed by Krishnendu Kalesh, featuring Rajesh Madhavan in the lead role. The script, written by the director himself, was produced by Jayanarayan Thulasi Das. The film also stars Ketaki Narayan, Neena Kurup, Mano Jose, Jayanarayanan Thulasidas, and Nithin George in key roles. Cinematography for the movie is handled by Manesh Madhavan, editing by Kiran Das, and music by Bijipal Maniyil.

Movie Plot
'Prappeda' centers on Ruby, a young girl caring for her paralyzed mother in a greenhouse inherited from her great-grandfather, set against a dystopian future. Ruby's life is dominated by her abusive stepfather, a former hunter, and further complicated by a pastor who oversees their existence with a seemingly benevolent yet intrusive presence.

The arrival of two outsiders a police officer and a mysterious individual disrupts Ruby's world, revealing hidden tensions and secrets. A small turtle's curse, intertwined with the family's history and the disputed territory of the greenhouse, triggers a series of odd and magical events. These events blur the line between reality and the mystical, leading to a conflict between forces of destruction and harmony.

At the heart of this struggle, Ruby's actions and choices become pivotal. 'Prappeda' explores themes of power, control, and liberation as Ruby confronts her oppressive surroundings and the dark secrets that have shaped her life, weaving a rich tapestry of human emotion, societal critique, and magical realism.

'Prappeda' premiered at the Kerala Film Festival (IFFK) on March 21, 2022.

Awards & Recognition
'Prappeda' won the special award for a promising debut in direction at this year’s Kerala State Film Awards. It also premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival under the 'Bright Future' category and was featured in the 'Contemporary Indian Cinema' section at the Moscow International Film Festival. Additionally, it competed in the 'Asian Film Competition' at the Dhaka International Film Festival and was showcased in the 'Malayalam Cinema Today' section at the International Film Festival of Kerala. Furthermore, it was officially selected by FIPRESCI as one of India’s best 50 Indian films of 2022.

'Prappeda' received several accolades, including 'Best Debut Director' at the Kerala State Film Awards and 'Best Actress' at the Dhaka International Film Festival in 2022.
