When he meets Hansika, he falls in love with her and tries to woo her with the help of his friends. In spite of trying hard, he fails to win over Hansika's heart who informs him that she is already engaged to her own relative and that her marriage will take place in a couple of years.

While trying his luck with Hansika, in an unexpected turn of events, Simbu gets himself involved in the murky business of a ruffian. How Simbu overcomes the difficulties involved in his personal and love life forms the crux of the story.

Casting

Vaalu was initially announced as a project which would have Jai in the lead role, but the project did not take off. In April 2012, Silambarasan announced that he has signed Vaalu, a comedy caper which would be helmed by debutant director Vijay under the banner Nic Arts.

It was widely rumoured that some top notch directors were trying to bring together Silambarasan and Nayantara for a film due to the demand among fans for their on screen chemistry.

However the actor has opened up and has put an end to these rumours. Later Hansika Motwani was roped in to play Simbu's love interest in the film. Hansika Motwani moved role of a sales girl in the film.

Thaman joined Simbu after Osthe joined as composer for this movie. This movie brings the trio Silambarasan, Santhanam and Ganesh of Vaanam and Osthe together again. Actors Naren and Sri Ranjani are also doing supporting roles. Kannada Actor Adithya was selected to play negative role.

The shooting of the first look teaser and a photoshoot of the film was completed in Taramani on 5 May 2012.

Controversy

On June 6, 2012, Silambarasan released an one minute teaser on the internet. In the video, Hansika tells Silambarasan, "Oru sila pasangala paaka paaka thaan pudikum, aana, una maari pasangala paatha odane pudichudum".

It reminds the viewers of Dhanush`s Padikathavan dialogue. However, Simbu was quick to deny any such connection. "The dialogue was part of the script.

We did not want to hit out at any one. I am just doing my job and am in no mood to involve myself in any controversy," the actor said.
