Illayathalapathy Vijay's Jilla has got thunderous response from his fans, as the film has got stupendous opening on the release day (January 10). Indeed, it has made the movie bosses happy.
Jilla was released in close to 900+ screens worldwide. In Tamil Nadu alone, the screen count stands somewhere between 360-390 and in Chennai around 40 screens. The film was released in more than 10 counties including Srilanka, Malaysia, UK, USA, France.
Multiplexes in Chennai had dedicated major screens for this movie to meet the demands of the audience. On the release day, the Tamil flick has got never-heard response from the Illayathalapathy fans.
In Chennai, the movie, which is made with the budget of 40 crores, ran into packed house in all the theatres. The state government's decision to permit five shows at single screens turned out to be blessing for exhibitors, distributors and the producer. This helped the people, who are involved in the business, to cash in on the occasion and to make quick money.
A theatre owner says, "It is a wonderful time for cine goers as they are getting big releases for Pongal. We are also happy because of the wonderful turnout that we witnessed on Friday. The occupancy for the movie on the release day was cent percent in Chennai. Early reports say that Jilla has got around 90+ occupancy on the first day worldwide. This means that the film has made amazing business.
For the first show, the occupancy was 80+ percent worldwide. But the following shows saw a gradual rise to end the first day on a very positive note.
Collection In TN
A trader predicts that Jilla could have made around Rs 8 crore on the first day. The collection will remain the same over the first weekend. And if the figure turns out true, it will be better than Vijay's last movie Thalaivaa.
A distributor adds, "Looking at the initial response, we feel that the film would make record collections. Fans are running crazy and many are watching it repeatedly. Not only in main centres, the response is good in unpopular markets too for Jilla."
Can Jilla Get Same Response For Next Few Days?
Many traders say that if the response could last for the next eight days at all the centres, producer would be in profit. We have to note that the satellite rights, distribution rights and other rights have earned good money for the makers of the film.
Jilla has got never-heard response in Kerala where the film is released in close to 200 screens. A trader explains, "Usually, a big-budget movie will be released in around 100 screens in Kerala. But in case of Vijay, we could expect 100-120 screens. However, this time the Mohanlal factor played a big role in getting maximum number of screens."
The trader adds, "Mohanlal is distributing the movie and he has ensured to give a mega opening to Jilla. And the film has got a never-before opening in the God's Own Country."
The situation in Karnataka is good for Jilla. Especially in Bangalore, the film ran packed houses in the morning shows.
Jilla had got around 25 screens in Bangalore. The morning show witnessed almost cent percent occupancy but the after noon shows saw a dip by 10-15 percent. Evening shows did well.
While this is the case at single screens, multiplexes got 80+ occupancy in the morning shows and the response were pretty low for the evening shows.
Jilla is an action family entertainer starring Vijay, Mohanlal and Kajal Aggarwal. RT Nesan has directed the movie, which is produced by RB Choudhary.
