This phenomenon highlights the increasing influence of Malayalam cinema beyond Kerala, fostering cross-regional appreciation and success. Chidambaram's debut directorial venture, 'Manjummel Boys,' left an indelible mark on the Tamil Nadu box office, creating history as the inaugural Malayalam film to cross the Rs 10 crore threshold. With exceptional advance bookings and an enthusiastic audience reception, the movie stormed theaters on February 22nd. It achieved a remarkable feat by swiftly entering the esteemed 100 crore club within just 12 days of its release.
2018 stands as the highest-grossing film in the history of Mollywood, breaking records both domestically in India and internationally. Upon its release in 2023, the film showcased remarkable longevity, earning approximately Rs. 1 crore in its sixth week alone, pushing its total collections to an impressive Rs. 107 crore in India. Notably, in Tamil Nadu, the film also enjoyed significant success at the box office, accumulating a noteworthy Rs. 2 crore. This achievement reflects the film's widespread appeal and its ability to captivate audiences across regions.
'Lucifer,' the directorial debut of Prithviraj Sukumaran, starring Mohanlal in the lead, has clinched the title of the highest-grossing Malayalam film in Tamil Nadu. This adrenaline-filled blockbuster has garnered an impressive gross revenue exceeding Rs 2.1 crore in the state.
'Hridayam' made a strong debut in Kerala theaters, garnering substantial attention and collecting over Rs 2.25 crore on its opening day. Beyond Kerala, the film also received positive feedback and responses from audiences in Tamil Nadu.
