Top 5 Highest-grossing Malayalam Rom-com Movies

Premalu stands out as one of the top-grossing romantic-comedy films in recent Malayalam cinema history. Achieving a remarkable feat, it entered the prestigious 100 crore club just 32 days after its theatrical release. Directed and penned by Girish AD, the movie features Naslen K, Gafoor, and Mamitha Baiju in significant roles. Noteworthy is its production, supported by industry stalwarts Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, and Syam Pushkaran.

As per reports, 'Ohm Shanthi Oshana' has amassed a staggering Rs 2.7 crore within four days of its release at the Indian box office. Directed by debutant Jude Anthany Joseph, the film features an ensemble cast including Vineeth Srinivasan, Aju Varghese, Vinaya Prasad, Oshein Mertil, Renji Panicker, and Lal Jose in supporting roles. Nazriya's portrayal in the movie has earned widespread acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

In 2015, Nivin's Premam, helmed by Alphonse Puthren, broke new ground in Malayalam cinema. Surpassing the box office records set by Mohanlal's Drishyam, it emerged as the highest-grossing film of its era. Its appeal wasn't limited to Kerala alone; the film garnered significant attention in Tamil Nadu as well, marking a milestone by running for an impressive 250 days in Chennai, a first for a Malayalam movie.

The romantic comedy was directed by Aashiq Abu and produced by Sadanandan Rangorath under the banner Lucsam Creations. It starred Lal, Shweta Menon, Mythili  and Asif Ali in the lead roles with Baburaj, Kalpana, Vijayaraghavan, Ahmed Sidhique,  Dileesh Pothan, and Nandhu in supporting roles.  Made on a budget of Rs 2.9 crore, the film went on to collect Rs 3.5 crore, thereby making it a success at the box office.

After his debut in 'Malarvadi Arts Club,' Nivin Pauly starred in Vineeth Sreenivasan's second directorial venture, "Thattathin Marayathu" (2012). This romantic musical not only solidified Nivin's reputation as one of the finest actors in Malayalam cinema but also became a commercial success. Despite its modest budget, the film grossed an impressive Rs. 18.9 crores at the box office.
