Yash Chopra Birthday Special: Best Pairs That ‘Brand Yash Chopra’ Created

It is Yash Chopra's Birthday today. Though the legendary director-scriptwriter-producer is no more with us, he has left behind his movies as memories that we can hold on to. The kind of movies he has given us is unforgettable and no filmmaker can create such a magic. The way he gives importance to the characters, locations and every small thing needed for a movie is just wonderful.

No doubt, he has shown heros and heroines from simple to stylish ways, but it is more captivating to see the lead pair's chemistry in the movie.Yash Chopra, the brand in his own way, has created many pairs with his movies. Be it under his direction or production banner, the couple in his movies will be in the list of best jodis either in award ceremonies or at least in the audience mind.

The Jodi that appeared in his movie would become so popular that many other directors would line them up to cast this pair in their film. The best example for this is Hritik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Dhoom 2. Yash Chopra would cast the jodi that was seen in other movies, but they would only get popular with his movie, and the example for this is Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. Though they did Baazigar and Karan Arjun previously, it was Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge that made this couple, the most romantic pair.

From Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh, Rekha-Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya Badhuri, Shahrukh Khan-Kajol to Shahrukh Khan-Katrina Kaif, Yash has given us the best pair onscreen and even offscreen.

Kabhie Kabhie: Amitabh-Raakhee, Rishi-Neetu

The movie was produced as well as directed by Yash Chopra. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Raakhee, Shashi Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh. Amitabh-Rakhee pair became famous along with Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's pair. It is said that Rishi and Neetu fell in love while shooting this film. This led the couple tying the knot in January 1980, after a much publicised engagement that was the talk of Bollywood.

Silsila: Jaya-Amitabh-Rekha

Silsila: Jaya-Amitabh-Rekha

Silsila, one of the classic love triangles, was directed and produced by Yash Chopra. The film had Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Rekha and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Shashi Kapoor did a special appearance. The movie was loosely inspired by the alleged real life love triangle of Amitabh-Jaya-Rekha. This was the last film to have Rekha with Amitabh Bachchan.

Chandini: Rishi-Sridevi

Chandini: Rishi-Sridevi

The film directed and produced by Yash Chopra, starred Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna. More than Vinod-Sridevi, it was Rishi-Sridevi's pair that was well appreciated. The movie captured Sridevi stylishly which created a trend during those days-remember white dress and sari! The film also boosted all the three actors' career.

Lamhe: Anil-Sridevi

The film directed and produced by Yash Chopra, starred Sridevi and Anil Kapoor. The Mr India jodi created their magic in this movie too. Lamhe has been cited as Yash Chopra's personal favourite movie.

Darr: SRK-Juhi

The film directed and produced by Yash Chopra, starred Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol. Shahrukh played the role of villain, who was madly in love with Juhi, who was in turn in love with Sunny. Although SRK and Juhi did Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, audience liked different subject in this movie and the couple was loved the most. Later, they went on to make many movies together.

All time Blockbuster - DDLJ was produced by Yash Chopra and directed by Aditya Chopra. The movie starred Shahrukh and Kajol. The movie was released on 25th anniversary of Yash Raj Films. Though SRK and Kajol were previously seen in Baazigar and Karan Arjun, it was this movie that made them the most wanted jodi in Bollywood. They were categorised in the most romantic couple list and their chemistry will be talked about by generations to come.

The film directed and produced by Yash Chopra, starred Madhuri Dixit, Shahrukh Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles. This was another best love triangle by Yash Chopra. The chemistry between SRK and Madhuri was loved the most by the audience. A small appearance by the pair Karisma and Akshay, at the end of the film, was cute!

Mohobbatein: SRK-Aish

Mohobbatein: SRK-Aish

Produced by Yash Chopra and directed by Aditya Chopra, the film starred big star cast along with Shahrukh and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The movie had young pairs which were shown differently - Bold pair: Uday Chopra and Shamita Shetty, Friendly pair: Jugal Hansraj and Kim Sharma, and Shy pair: Jimmy Shergill and Preeti Jhangiani. All these pairs' stories were shown in a beautiful way which seemed very real. People loved SRK and Aish's chemistry, which was shown as flash back story. It is said that Aishwarya playing Megha, was not shown with her face in the trailer prior to the movie release. She being lesser popular back then, many thought her as Kajol or Madhuri who were already seen with SRK and Yash Raj Banner.

Veer Zaara: SRK-Preity

Veer Zaara: SRK-Preity

The film was directed by Yash Chopra and produced by Yash and Aditya Chopra. The film starred Shahrukh, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerjhee, Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini. The love story of Shahrukh-Preity was considered as simple, which had an immense message to strengthen the bond of love between India and Pakistan. SRK and Preity won Star Screen Awards for Jodi no 1. The film marked Chopra's return as a director after seven years post Dil To Pagal Hai, which also starred Shahrukh Khan. As of 2007, out of the five films SRK and Preity have done together, this is the only movie where their characters come together as a couple by the end of the film.

Bunty Aur Babli: Abhi-Rani

Bunty Aur Babli: Abhi-Rani

Directed by Shaad Ali and produced under Yash Raj banner, the film starred Rani and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles. Rani and Abhi made a wonderful pair. The pair won Star Screen Award Jodi No 1 for this movie. They were previously seen in Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai and LOC Kargil, and were supposed to be dating then. They were also seen in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Yash Raj's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, which was their last movie together.

Salaam Namaste: Saif-Preity

The movie was directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra under the Yash Raj banner. The movie starred Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta fourth time together. Saif and Preity are considered as one of the cute pairs in the industry.

Interestingly, Chopra's introduced Ness Wadia, the then boyfriend of Preity in the movie! Ness appears as the man reading the newspaper in the bus.

The movie was directed by Kunal Kohli and produced under Yash Raj Films. The movie first paired Aamir and Kajol together. Thought they were paired together in Ishq, they appeared as friends. Kajol made a comeback after five years with this movie, also this was his first movie of Aamir under Yash Raj banner. The movie, especially the chemistry between Aamir and Kajol was praised.

Directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra, the film starred Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek, Aishwarya, Uday Chopra and Bipasha Basu. This is the first pairing of Hrithik and Aishwarya after many close tries. They made a great pair in the movie. A kiss scene between the two caused a court case for obscenity, though it was a plus to their sizzling chemistry! The couple became demanding in the industry and they went on to bag two movies together - Jodhaa Akbar and Guzaarish.

Though other pairs: Ranbir-Bips and Ranbir-Minissha were good enough, it was Ranbir-Dips' pair which became the talk of the town as it was said that they were dating then. This pair was later cast in recent movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which became Blockbuster.

The movie was directed by debutant Maneesh Sharma and produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films. It starred Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles. Though Anushka's pair with SRK in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was well accepted, it was this fresh pair in this movie which was praised more. The pair won Hot Pair award in IIFA, also Lions Favourite Jodi award in 17th Lions Gold Award (2011). They went on to do another movie Ladies vs Ricky Bahl under Yash Raj Banner.

Ek Tha Tiger: Salman-Katrina

The movie was directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. This was Salman's first movie with Yash Raj Films. The movie brought the ex-couple Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif together after long time. Salman and Katrina made a good pair, who were seen together in four films (including this movie), the last being Yuvvraaj (2008).

This was last directorial movie of Yash Chopra. The movie was produced by Aditya Chopra and starred Shahrukh, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. The chemistry between SRK and Anushka received accolades for their performances. They were previously seen in Yash's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. With this movie, Chopra introduced another pair, SRK and Katrina. Thought few didn't like this pair, some loved the jodi.
