Ranga
died
at
a
private
hospital
in
Chennai
on
Sunday
(December
12)
due
to
multiple-organ
failure.
He
was
93
and
survived
by
three
sons
and
a
daughter.
BS
Ranga
was
born
on
November
11,
1917
in
Magadi
village
near
Bengaluru.
He
started
his
career
as
a
cinematographer
at
the
age
of
17
and
became
an
honorary
fellow
of
the
Royal
Photographic
Society
in
London.
Later,
he
returned
to
Mumbai
and
worked
under
famous
cameramen
Krishna
Gopal.
During
the
course,
he
learnt
in
and
outs
of
Cinema
and
went
on
to
start
his
own
production
house
Vikram
Productions.
He
produced
and
directed
around
45
films
in
Kannada,
Tamil,
Telugu
and
Hindi.
He
has
worked
with
legendary
actors
like
Dr.
Rajkumar,
Shammi
Kapoor,
Sivaji
Ganesan,
NTR,
ANR
etc.
He
is
also
remembered
for
making
first
Kannada
colour
film
Amarshili
Jakkanachari,
which
won
President's
Award.
His
few
other
noted
films
in
Kannada
are
Mannina
Maga,
Mahishasura
Mardhini,
Bala
Nagamma,
Bhagyanvantha,
Bhaktha
Markandeya
etc.
Pardesi,
Pyaas
in
Hindi,
Bhakta
Naradaru,
Tenali
Ramakrishna
etc
in
Telugu.
His
funeral
is
scheduled
to
be
held
on
Wednesday
as
some
of
his
family
members
are
yet
to
arrive
from
America.
