Lucifer to Manichithrathazhu: 10 Movies That Proved Mohanlal Is A Box-office King Of Mollywood

Starring Mohanlal in the lead role, 'Lucifer' marks directorial venture of actor Prithviraj. The film was released in theaters in 2019 and emerged as one of the highest-grossing movies of that year. Apart from Mohanlal, actors including Manju Warrier, Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas and Prithviraj essayed key roles. After breaking records of several big-budget movies, Lucifer  entered entered Rs 100 crore club in 2019·

Drishyam is a suspense thriller drama, that features Mohanlal and Meena in the lead roles. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film earned Rs 16 crore at the domestic box on its opening day. "Drishyam 2" Malayalam got an excellent response from critics and OTT audiences alike from the theaters and OTT platforms. The film is the sequel to the 2013 crime thriller 'Drishyam' and was remade in the languages includes Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Directed  by Vyshakh, 'Pulimurugan'  has become the first Malayalam film to enter the Rs 100 crore club. Made with a budget of Rs 25 crore, 'Pulimurugan' deals with man animal conflict with Mohanlal in the lead role of Murugan, a hunter. Actor Mohanlal and Bengali actor Kamalini Mukherjee played significant roles in the movie. According to reports, it had collected  Rs 4 crore on the opening day.

According to reports, the film has collected 1.56 crore from Kerala box office on the opening day  Apart from India, the movie has been released in overseas markets like UK, Ireland, and New Zealand and has made a huge impact there as well. Helmed by Priyadarshan, Oppam features actors  Mohanlal and Samuthirakani in the significant roles.

After success of Pulimurgan and Oppam, Mohanlal who again proved himself as a box-office king with a record-box-office collection of his movie 'Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol'. If reports are to be believed, the movie had collected Rs 19.65 Crores from the Kerala box office alone, just within the first 10 days of its release.

Narasimham is an action drama, directed by Shaji Kailas and Mohanlal essayed the lead character. The film was released in theaters in 2000 and got good responses from the audience as well as critics. As per the reports, the movie grossed Rs 22 crores in the worldwide collection. Narasimham was the first Malayalam movie screened in theaters for 200 days.

The film 'Kayamkulam Kochunni' created a history by collecting Rs 5.5 crores on its opening day. It has became the biggest Malayalam opener ever.  It is second blockbuster movie of the actor which entered to 100 crore club after Pulimurugan.

‘Spadikam’, a 1995 Malayalam-language action drama film written and directed by Bhadran and featured Mohanlal in the main lead roles.  He impressed audience by performing as a gangster in the movie. As per the reports, the film had collected Rs 8 crore at the box-office.

Mohanlal who played Jagannandhan in the movie 'Araam Thampuran' had gained the attention of the audience and received good responses from box-office. Directed by Ranjith, the film marks the first collaboration of the director with actor Mohanlal. According to the reports, the film earned Rs 7.5 crores at the worldwide box office.

Fazil's blockbuster movie 'Manichithrathazhu' is still favourite for every one. Released on December 23, 1993, the psychological thriller stars Shobana, Suresh Gopi, Mohanlal, Nedumudi Venu, Vinaya Prasad and Innocent.Two National Film Awards, for Best Actress and Best Popular Film, came on the heels of massive box office success.
