Chaitra HG Biography

Chaitra H. G. is a Hindustani classical and playback singer, daughter of H. S. Gopinath (a tabla player). She practiced Hindustani classical music for nearly 16 years with guidance of renowned Hindustani vocalist Dr. Nagaraja Rao Havaldar, disciple of Bhimsen Joshi.

Chaitra holds a Bachelor of Engineering, specialised in Information Science and Engineering. She is skilled in Gymnastics and Fencing, at which she has been a state level champion for 3 years. She has represented Karnataka, at the national level, in more than 20 competitions and has won gold medals in both sports.

In 1993, at the age of 8, she was given the opportunity to sing for the film Beda Krishna Ranginata under the music direction of Sri. V. Manohar, which marked the beginning of Chaitra's career as a playback singer.

She leaped back into playback singing in the year 2003-04 for the film Bhagawan and, from then, she has been known for her unique voice and pattern of singing. Her “Huduga Huduga” song from the Kannada language film Amruthadhare won her the state award as the best playback singer in 2005.

She has completed 350+ songs as a playback singer in many south Indian languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali for many leading music directors such as Hamsalekha, Gurukiran, Raghu Dixit, Sadhu Kokila, Rajesh Ramnath, Mano Murthy, R.P Pattnaik, Mani Sharma, etc. She is one of the leading playback singers in the Kannada film industry - a major achievement in the face of the competition presented by Bollywood singers in Kannada films. Mast Coffee, a pop album, features Chaitra in an English song as the lead female singer.
