Ratanlal Bhagatram Choudary, popularly known as R. B. Choudary, was born in 1949 into a Rajasthani family and raised in Chennai (then Madras). Before making his mark in the film industry, he established himself as a successful businessman with ventures in steel, export, and jewellery. Entry into Films Choudary entered the world of cinema in the late 1980s, beginning his journey as a producer in the Malayalam film industry. His debut production was Aadhi Paapam (1988), which marked the start of an illustrious career in filmmaking. Founding of Super Good Films In 1989, he collaborated with R. Mohan, known for the “Good Knight” brand, to produce films under the “Super” banner. Following their separation, Choudary merged the two names—“Super” and “Good”—to establish his own production house, Super Good Films , which went on to become one of the most successful banners in South Indian cinema. Career Highlights & Contributions Over a career spanning nearly four decades, R. B. Choudary produced around 99 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema. He earned a reputation as a “launchpad” for fresh talent, introducing nearly 34 directors to the industry, including notable names like K. S. Ravikumar and Vikraman. Choudary also played a significant role in shaping the early career of actor Vijay, backing successful films such as Poove Unakkaga, which helped establish him as a leading star. The couple had four sons. Two of them, Jithan Ramesh and Jiiva (Amar Choudary), became well-known actors in the film industry. Jiiva made his debut in his father’s production Aasai Aasaiyai. His other sons, Suresh and Jeevan, have been involved in film production and the family’s business ventures. Death & Legacy R. B. Choudary died on May 5, 2026, at the age of 76, following a tragic car accident near Udaipur, Rajasthan, while returning from a relative’s wedding. His sudden demise sent shockwaves across the film industry, with leading figures such as Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, and Pawan Kalyan expressing their condolences.
