Rukmini Vasanth Biography

Rukmini Vasanth is a talented Indian actress primarily known for her work in Kannada and South Indian films. She made her film debut in Birbal Trilogy Case 1: Finding Vajramuni (2019) and quickly garnered attention. In 2023, she earned widespread acclaim and won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – Kannada for her role in the romantic dramas Sapta Saagaradaache Ello – Side A and Side B.


Born to a Kannada-speaking family in Bangalore, Rukmini’s lineage is deeply respected in India. Her father, Colonel Vasanth Venugopal, was the first recipient from Karnataka of the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime military decoration. He was killed in action in 2007 while courageously preventing armed infiltrators from crossing the border in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. Her mother, Subhashini Vasanth, a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, later established a foundation to support war widows in Karnataka.


Rukmini completed her schooling at Army School, Air Force School, and Centre for Learning in Bangalore. She later pursued a degree in acting from the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in Bloomsbury, London, where she honed her craft.


Career Highlights


Rukmini’s acting journey began with the 2019 Kannada film Birbal Trilogy opposite M.G. Srinivas. That same year, she also appeared in the Hindi film Upstarts. In 2023, her portrayal of Priya alongside Rakshit Shetty in Sapta Saagaradaache Ello – Side A and Side B was both critically and commercially successful. She further expanded her filmography with Baanadariyalli opposite Ganesh, also in 2023. Rukmini is set to make her Tollywood debut with Appudo Ippudo Eppudo, where she stars opposite Nikhil Siddharth.
