The Dadasaheb Phalke is an Indian producer-director-screenwriter and also known as the Father of Indian cinema. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, awarded for lifetime contribution to cinema by the Government of India, is named in his honor. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest prestigious award in the Indian cinema field. In every year of the Indian National Film Festival Award ceremony, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be honored for the "outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema" and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry. The award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹1,000,000. Here the Dadasaheb Phalke Award winners from the Tamil industry are listed out.
