Arya Biography

Jamshad Cethirakath, known by his stage name Arya, is an Indian film actor and producer, who mainly appears in Tamil films besides appearing in a number of Malayalam productions.

Arya is an Indian Tamil film actor born as Jamshad Cethirakath on 11 Dec, 1980.  Arya was born in Trikarpur, Kerala, into a Malayali Tamil family. His younger brother Sathya also is an actor. He did his schooling at SBOA, Chennai, and completed his graduation from Crescent Engineering College, Chennai.


Arya started off as a computer engineer, his passion for filming brought him to modelling before debuting in Jeeva's Ullam Ketkumae, which also marked the debut of Asin Thottumkal and Pooja Umashankar. The film also starred Laila and Shaam, but the film was delayed only releasing after Arinthum Ariyamalum.

In Arinthum Ariyamalum, Arya played as son to Prakash Raj in a critically acclaimed role, which won him the Filmfare Best Debut Award South and Best New Male Face Award at the Filmfare Awards. Arinthum Ariyamalum and Ullam Ketkumae both made it large at the box office.

Oru Kalluriyin Kathai also made it big at the box office and Arya was touted as the next pin-up boy of Kollywood. His next, Kalabha Kadhalan was an average grosser in Kollywood, as it shared a striking resemblance with the Kollywood's all-time best thriller, Vaali. Pattiyal with Bharath broke records in B and C centres all over Tamil Nadu. He played the role of a rogue in the film.

Later, Arya did a Naan Kadavul with director which took 2 years to complete, he grew long hair for the film. In early 2009, the movie released and gained good critics but did an average run at the box office. In 2009, Arya has allotted bulk dates to work with director Vishnuvardhan for the movie Sarvam along with Trisha Krishnan, it didn't work well in the box office. Director Vishnuvardhan and Arya worked together earlier in Arindhum Ariyamalum and Pattiyal.

Then, he did a Telugu movie Varadu with Allu Arjun, and Arya played the antagonist in the movie and received good reviews from critics. His next venture was the period film Madrassapatinam with Amy Jackson, which was directed by A.L. Vijay. The story is all about the love between a dhobi in washermanpet with the daughter of a governor. Movie was successful in all centres and it took Arya to places.

In 2010, Arya appeared in director Rajesh's comedy film Boss Engira Baskaran along with Santhanam and Nayantara, which was co produced by Arya's production company Show The People. It became his first blockbuster in his career. His next release was Chikku Bukku a romantic travelogue film, in which Arya did a dual role. Due to its mixed responses, the movie did only an average business at the box office.

In 2013, Arya was seen in four Tamil films. He first appeared alongside Santhanam and Premji Amaren in R. Kannan's comedy film Settai, a remake of the 2011 Hindi film Delhi Belly. The film opened to mixed reviews and average collections, with a critic noting Arya looks "wooden, tired and disinterested". Raja Rani and Arrambam were highly successful at the box office.

In Aug 2015, Arya's 25th film Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga directed by Boss Engira Bhaskaran fame Rajesh produced by this home banner The Show People got released and met with positive response at the box office. Many online portals reviewed it as a romantic comedy entertainer like Rajesh's previous films.
