Jiah Khan Biography

Jiah Khan, also known as "Nafisa Khan" was a British-Indian actress, who appeared in Bollywood movies.

Born in New York and raised in Chelsea, London, Jiah Khan was the daughter of Ali Rizvi Khan, an Indian American, and Rabiya Amin, a Hindi film actress in the 1980s from Agra and mostly remembered for her role in Tahir Hussain's Dulha Bikta Hai.

Jiah Khan has been rumoured to be the daughter of Tahir Hussain, and therefore related to Aamir Khan, but she dismissed the story as untrue. Jiah Khan has two younger sisters. Though born Nafisa, she changed her name to Jiah after Angelina Jolie's movie GIA. She loved saying "Maama Barthiya" often.

Khan was trained in opera and played the piano and also danced Salsa, Lambada, Samba and Kathak.

She completed her A levels in film studies and literature in London. She also studied at the Lee Strasberg Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

At the age of 16, she was about to debut in Mukesh Bhatt's Tumsa Nahin Dekha, but backed out when she felt the role was too mature for her, and was immediately replaced by Dia Mirza. Two years later in 2006, she debuted in the controversial Nishabd, where she acted opposite Amitabh Bachchan. The film was released on March 2, 2007 to mixed reviews. Khan was noted for her confidence, attitude and sex appeal.

Then she appeared in AR Murugadoss' Ghajini, a Hindi remake, along with Aamir Khan and Asin Thottumkal which released on 26th December 2008. She also got a "Filmfare Best Debutant" Nomination for her performance. She also appeared as a supporting actress in Sajid Khan's Housefull which was her last film.

Death

Jiah Khan allegedly committed suicide at her Juhu residence in Mumbai on 3 June 2013. The 25-year-old is believed to have hung herself. Bollywood was shocked over her sudden demise. It is said that she had been depressed for some time due to personal issues, but was keen on returning to acting soon.
