Laya is an acclaimed Telugu film actress and classical dancer. She studied at Nirmala High School and earned a Master's in Computer Applications. Before entering films, she performed over 50 stage shows as a classical dancer and was also a state-level chess player.
She made her debut as a lead actress in Swayamvaram (1999) and received critical recognition with roles in Manoharam (2000), Preminchu (2001), and Missamma (2003). Her performance in Manoharam and Preminchu earned her consecutive Nandi Awards for Best Actress.
After marriage in 2006 to Dr. Sri Ganesh Gorty, she moved to the U.S. and worked in the IT industry. Following a brief cameo in Amar Akbar Anthony (2018), she made a full-fledged cinematic comeback with Nithiin’s Thammudu (2025), directed by Venu Sriram and produced by Dil Raju. In this film, she plays Jhansi Kiranmayee, a strong-minded government officer.
