Varun Dhawan was born to Indian film director, David Dhawan and Karuna Dhawan. He has an older brother, Rohit Dhawan. He has mentioned that when he was younger, he wanted to become a wrestler. He has a degree in business management.
Before starting off as an actor, Dhawan was an assistant director to his father, David Dhawan. He also assisted Karan Johar in his 2010 film, My Name is Khan.
Varun made his acting debut in the 2012 film, Student of the Year.

Varun is married to Natasha Dalal on 24 January 2021.
