Jailer Story

Jailer is an action drama written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The movie stars Superstar Rajinikanth and Ramya Krishnan in the lead roles, along with Malayalam actor vinayakan, Mohanlal, Yogi Babu, Shiva Rajkumar, Mirnaa, and many others in supporting roles.

Vijay Kartik Kannan handled the cinemotography, and the film editing was done by R Nirmal. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music and the background score for this film. Kalanidhi Maran produced this film under his own production banner, Sun Pictures.

Story

Tiger Muthuvel Pandian is a retired jailer who is now spending his days with his loving family. He is respected by everyone in his community, but he is also feared by criminals. One day, Pandian's son, who is also a cop, goes missing while investigating a case involving an idol-stealing gang. The police claim that Pandian's son committed suicide, but Pandian knows that something is not right.

Pandian sets out to find his son and bring the people responsible to justice. He soon discovers that the idol-stealing gang is not just a simple criminal organisation. They are also corrupt police officers who are willing to do anything to protect their secrets. Then he transforms from a mild-mannered family man into a ruthless vigilante. He is unstoppable in his quest for revenge, and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Jailer is setting new records at the box office! The film has crossed the 298 crore net collection and 500 crore gross collection mark in just 12 days, making it the fastest-grossing Kollywood film of all time. It is also the second film to gross 500 crore at the box office, following his own 2.0. The film's makers have pulled off a phenomenal feat, delivering a savior film that has given both the director and Superstar Rajnikanth a strong comeback after their previous work was met with trolling.

Film Progress

Sun Pictures announced on February 10, 2022, that they will be producing a new film starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson. The film was tentatively titled Thalaivar 169, but the title was later changed to Jailer on June 17, 2022. Nelson wrote the screenplay for Jailer himself, dismissing earlier reports that K. S. Ravikumar would be writing it. Nelson also retained his crew from his previous films, Doctor and Beast, including cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan and editor R. Nirmal. Jailer marks the first collaboration between Nelson and Rajinikanth.

Production Record

Jailer's shooting schedule was a bumpy one. It started with test shoots in Chennai in late July 2022, but the main shoot was supposed to start in Hyderabad on August 3rd. However, a strike in Hyderabad delayed the start of filming by at least three weeks. The shoot finally started in Chennai on August 22nd.

By October, filming was also taking place in Cuddalore. In January 2023, a small filming schedule took place in Jaisalmer. The following month, filming began in Mangalore. The climax of the film was shot at Athirappilly Falls in Kerala in March 2023. Principal photography wrapped on June 1st, 2023.

Fight For Title

Jailer title tussle: Malayalam filmmaker Sakkir Madathil claims he had registered the title first in 2021, seeks Sun Pictures to change it. In July 2023, Malayalam filmmaker Sakkir Madathil claimed that he had registered the title Jailer for his Malayalam film in the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) in 2021. He then requested producer Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures to change the title of his Tamil film Jailer. When Sun Pictures refused to change the title, Madathil took the issue to court and filed a legal complaint. The case was dismissed, and they both saw it as a sign. Both took the title and ran with it.


Promo, Trailer, and Audio Launch

Jailer fever swept the nation in July 2023, with the release of the first single promo, Kaavaalaa. The video, which features a playful exchange between director Nelson and composer Anirudh, quickly went viral, racking up over 100 million views on YouTube. The hook step performed by Tamannaah Bhatia also went viral, becoming the dance craze of the summer. The Kaavaalaa lyrical video was released on 6 July, and it was even more of a hit than the promo. The song, which is a catchy blend of Tamil and Telugu, has been praised by critics and fans alike.

The Jailer audio launch took place on 13 July at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The event was a star-studded affair, with appearances by Rajinikanth, Nelson, Anirudh, Tamannaah Bhatia,, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Yogi Babu, and many others. The event was later broadcast on Sun TV on August 6, and it was a huge success, which generatted high TRP for the television network.

The Jailer Showcase premiered on YouTube on 2 August 2023. The excitement for Jailer is building, which encouraged the audience to think like it is sure to be one of the biggest films of the year.

Release

The movie Jailer was released in theatres on August 10, 2023. Superstar Rajinikanth's latest movie, Jailer, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 7.
