Aanand L Rai was born on 28 June 1971 in Delhi, India. He grew up in a middle-class family with roots tracing back to the post-Partition era. Before entering films, he initially followed a conventional career path but later moved to Mumbai, driven by his interest in storytelling and direction. Early Career Rai began his career by assisting his elder brother, Ravi Rai, a well-known television director. This exposure helped him understand the creative and technical side of filmmaking. He made his directorial debut with the psychological thriller Strangers (2007), followed by Thodi Life Thoda Magic (2008). Rise to Fame Aanand L Rai gained major recognition with Tanu Weds Manu (2011), a film that connected deeply with audiences.
