Saravanan Surya Mani, popularly known as AVM Saravanan, was a distinguished Indian film producer and one of the most influential figures in Tamil cinema. He helmed AVM Productions, a legendary banner founded in 1945 by his father, the iconic filmmaker A. V. Meiyappan, celebrated as a pioneer of South Indian cinema. Throughout his illustrious career, Saravanan produced several landmark films, including Naanum Oru Penn, Samsaram Adhu Minsaram, Minsara Kanavu, Sivaji: The Boss, Ayan, Vettaikaran, and Leader. His exceptional contributions earned him two Filmfare Awards South, cementing his legacy as a visionary producer. He also played a significant role in the growth of AVM Studios, one of Chennai’s oldest and most respected film studios. Saravanan was the father of producer M. S. Guhan, continuing the family’s cinematic legacy. Beyond cinema, he served the city with distinction as the Sheriff of Madras in 1986. Death AVM Saravanan had been battling health-related issues for several years and was receiving periodic treatment. He passed away on 4 December 2025, at the age of 86, due to age-related ailments, leaving behind a monumental legacy in Indian cinema.
