He produced several hit films under his banner Aftab Pictures, including Qayamat, Phool Aur Angaar, Baazi, and Badal.
He launched the careers of major actors like Rani Mukerji in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat and Tamannaah Bhatia in Chand Sa Roshan Chehra.
Apart from producing, he was also a well-known film distributor in West Bengal.
Salim Akhtar passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 82 in Mumbai, leaving behind a legacy of memorable films.
