Biography

Yamuna Rani is a well-known actress predominantly active in the Malayalam Film and Television industry. Her acting journey commenced with 'Basheer Kathakal,' a telefilm series directed by PN Menon. However, she gained considerable acclaim for her performance in the television serial 'Jwalayay.' In addition to her television work, Yamuna has demonstrated her acting prowess in supporting roles in films like 'Ustad,' 'Valyettan,' 'Pattanathil Sundaran,' and 'Meesamadhavan.' Personal Life Originally from Pattathanamthitta in Kollam, Yamuna, born in Arunachal Pradesh, changed her name from 'Aruna' to 'Yamuna' upon entering the small screen. Her father, Venugopalan Nair, served as a PWD Engineer in Arunachal Pradesh, while her mother, Shathamma, was a homemaker. Yamuna has a younger sister, who is five years her junior. Marriage and divorce She was married to director SP Mahesh, and separated in 2019. Subsequently, in 2020, the actress tied the knot with Devan Ayyankeril, a psychotherapist based in the US. In her first relationship, the actress has two daughters. The elder daughter is currently in 12th grade, while the younger one is a student in 9th grade. Career Life Stepping into the industry as a serial artist, the actress began her journey with the telefilm series titled 'Basheer Kathakal,' produced by Madhu Mohan and directed by PN Menon. Following three years as an associate with PN Menon, she transitioned to a lead role in the serial 'Manasi,' considered one of the pioneering mega serials in Malayalam. Notably, she portrayed the daughter of senior actress Sukumari in the series before landing a breakthrough role in 'Jwalayay,' a pivotal moment in her career. Her portrayal of Madhumathy in the serial 'Chandanamazha' further solidified her popularity among television audiences. With over 50 successful serials to her credit, Yamuna is now a senior artist in the television industry. Expanding her repertoire beyond the small screen, Yamuna made her silver screen debut in the 1999 film 'Stalin Sivadas'. Since then, she has delivered exceptional performances in more than 45 movies, including notable titles such as 'Ustad,' 'Pallabur Devanarayanan,' ' Valyettan,' 'Meerayude Dukkavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum,' 'Pattanathil Sundaran,' and 'Meesamadhavan.'
