Kajol Biography

Kajol Devgan, née Mukherjee, popularly known as Kajol, is a Hindi film actress. Kajol made her acting debut with Bekhudi (1992) and had her first hit with her second film Baazigar (1993) along with Shahrukh Khan, with whom she later went to deliver some of the biggest Bollywood hits like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998).

Personal Life

Kajol married to Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn in 1999. The couple has two children – daughter Nysa Devgn and son Yug Devgn. Nysa was born on April 20, 2003. Seven years later, their son Yug was born

Career Life

Kajol left her school St. Joseph's Convent at Panchgani and started her career at the age of seventeen. Although her debut film, Bekhudi (1992) was not a great success at the box office, her performance was noticed and she went on to work with big production houses in India.

In 1993, she shot to fame with her second film, Baazigar, opposite Shahrukh Khan. The film was her first major hit, and her pairing with Khan was appreciated. She later went on to make a popular pairing with him in a number of films, all of which were box office successes.

Her first release in 1994, Udhaar Ki Zindagi, was a box-office failure. Despite that, her performance in the film was much appreciated by critics, and she won the  Her performances in both the films were praised and earned her two Filmfare Best Actress Awards.

After then, she worked with Shah Rukh Khan  in the film  Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Directed by Aditya Chopra the film was a block-buster hit and grossed 1.3 billion INR worldwide. For stellar stellar performance in the movie  won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In the same year, she acted in  Rakesh Roshan`s Karan Arjun. The film was superhit at the box-office and the actress gained attention among audiences.

Apart from acting in Hindi films, she made her  Tamil debut in 1997 with Rajiv Menon`s Minsara Kanavu. She played a female lead role alongside  Prabhudeva and Arvind Swamy in this film . After the success of Tamil debut,she came back to the Bollywood and acted in  Indra Kumar`s Ishq.

Her next film was Karan Johar`s directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Starred  Shah Rukh Khan , Rani Mukherjee and Kajol, the film collected more than 100 crores at the world wide box office. Later, she again on-screen space with King Khan Shah Rukh Khan  in the film 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham '. Billed as an family action drama, it was successful and critically acclaimed.

In 2006, she worked with actor Amir Khan for the film 'Fanaa '.  Later, she played a lead role with  her husband  Ajay Devgan's directorial debut  U Me Aur Hum.  Her next film was My Name Is Khan alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Released in 2010, the film was  well-received at the box office.

After five years break, Kajol came back to the industry with Dilwale alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Directed by  Rohit Shetty and produced by Gauri Khan, the film went on to become a decent hit at the box-office. She was last seen in the films includes Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Salaam Venky .
