Biography

Ranjith is a South Indian actor known for his work in Tamil and Malayalam films. He began his acting career in 1993 with the film Pon Vilangu , directed by K. S. Rajkumar. His breakthrough role came in Maru Malarchi , where he played the antagonist opposite Mammootty . His performance in this film earned him critical acclaim and the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Villain. A Political Journey Ranjith's career has been intertwined with politics. He was a long-standing member and spokesperson of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). However, in 2018, he left the AIADMK and joined the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) as its deputy leader. His tenure with the PMK was short-lived, as he quit the party in 2019 due to disagreements over its support for the AIADMK in the 2019 Indian general election. Subsequently, Ranjith joined the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK). Controversial Statements Ranjith has often found himself embroiled in controversy due to his public statements. In 2019, he sparked outrage when he suggested that caste-based honor killings were not violent but rather a form of parental care. His statement was met with widespread condemnation, and he later retracted it, clarifying that he opposed all forms of killing.
