Sagar Biography

Sagar, also known as Vidyasagar Reddy, is a Telugu filmmaker. He was the director of numerous noteworthy movies, including his debut film, Ramasakkanodu, which was honoured with three Nandi Awards. Like Srinu Vaitla, many of his assistants went on to have successful careers as filmmakers. In addition, as president, he leads the Telugu Film Organization.

Personal Life

Sagar was born on March 1st, 1952, in Nidamarru, a community close to Mangalagiri. For educational purposes, they shifted to Madras, and he pursued his schooling at Kesari High School, Chennai. His father once served as the village's munsabu.

Career

Before directing his breakthrough hit in 1983, he initially worked in a variety of positions for many Telugu movies, including as an assistant director and film editor. In 1983, he made his directorial debut with the movie "Ramasakkanodu," which starred Naresh and Vijaya Shanti in prominent roles.

Later, he directed a succession of blockbuster movies starring prominent Telugu actors, notably the films "Amma Donga," "Khaidi Brothers," "Stuwartpuram Dongalu," "Rama Sakkanodu," "Action No. 1," "Anveshana," and "Oosi Naa Maradala." Following that, he teamed up with Suman Talwar and Bhanu Chander to create the film "Daku," which was his career-defining film and was based on an English feature. It was also a smash hit.

Many directors from the current generation of Tollywood, including Srinu Vaitla, V.V. Vinayak, Ravi Kumar Chowdary, and G. Nageswara Reddy, were mentored by him. He was the one who initially mentored and turned them into filmmakers, and since then they have gone on to become top filmmakers in Telugu cinema.

Death

Veteran Telugu film director Sagar passed away on February 2, 2023, after a severe illness. He had been ailing for some time, according to sources, and died early at his home in Chennai.
