Sunidhi Chauhan is an Indian playback singer, best known for her Bollywood songs.

Early Life

Career

She started her singing career at a very early age of four. She participated in many competitions and made her presence felt. Her family soon shifted to Mumbai when Tabassum, a TV host spotted her talent and expressed to her parents that she could further her career if they went to Mumbai. She became quite famous through the various competitions she participated in.

Her performances were telecast all over India through the National Television channel Doordarshan, through the music show "Meri Aawaz Suno" where she won the "Lata Mangeshkar Trophy" for the best female singer of India along with Pradip Somasundaran in the male category. This was the first such televised contest in India in 1996.

She shot to fame after she sang 'Ruki ruki si zindagi' in Ram Gopal Verma's Mast. Sandeep Chowta's first film made her the ideal young voice and Sunidhi and her song became the most memorable number for that film. She has sold her solo album called Aira Gaira Nathu Khaira. She had no formal training before she entered into various national singing competitions. Lata Mangeshkar offered to train her when she won on the nationally-telecast "Meri Aawaz Suno".

In 2005, she rendered 'yeh mera dil' (Don 2006) and earned much criticism for not matching up with the earlier version sung by Asha Bhonsle in 1978. Personal Life

In 2002, at the age of 18, she married music video director Bobby Khan, against the wishes of her family which caused a rift with her family. They divorced a year later, and Sunidhi has reconciled with her parents.

Later, Chauhan began a romantic relationship with the music composer Hitesh Sonik whom she was friends with, since the days she won Meri Awaz Suno. After dating for more than two years, they married on 24 April 2012, at a low profile wedding ceremony in Mumbai. On 1 January 2018, Chauhan gave birth to a boy.
