Farhan Akhtar Biography

Farhan Akhtar is a film director, producer, actor, and playback singer. He is the son of Bollywood of scriptwriter Javed Akhtar and actress Honey Irani. Farhan came to the film industry as an assistant director in the film 'Lamhe'. He made his directorial debut in 2001 with Dil Chahta Hai. He won two Filmfare awards for his film ' Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara'.


Personal Life

Farhan Akhtar was born in Mumbai to Bollywood celebrity couples Javed Akhtar, and Honey Irani.  The noted director and scriptwriter, Zoya Aktar is his sister. After completing his schooling at Maneckji Cooper School, and later took graduation in law from H.R.College Mumbai.

Farhan Akhtar married Adhuna Bhabani in 2000 after dating each other for three years. However, the couple announced their divorce in 2016 and the actor married Shibani Dandekar on January 2022.


Career Life


Farhan Akhtar Stepped into the film industry as an assistant director at the age of 17. He made his directorial debut with Dil Chahta Hai in 2001. Farhan produced it under his production company Excel Entertainment. The film was a big hit at the box-office and won the National film award for best film of that year.

Apart from directing films, Farhan made his acting debut in the 2008  film 'Rock On'. Billed as a musical drama, Farhan played a lead role alongside Arjun Rampal and Prachi Desai. Later, he was seen in the films like Karthik Calling Karthik and Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara. Released in 2011, the Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara was one of the most successful movies of his career. Starring Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles the film was one of the most-talked-about movies in Bollywood.

After then, he appeared in a Biopic 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' in 2013. The film featured Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor in significant roles, it was a commercial hit at the box office. Later, he was seen in Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Dil Dhadakne Do, and The Sky Is Pink.

Awards & Recognition

Farhan Akhtar won his first national award for his directorial debut film 'Dil Chahta Hai'. In 2011, he won two Filmfare awards for his performances in the film 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara'. He won his third filmfare award for Best Actor for his film ' Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'.
