S. Janaki , born Sistla Janaki, was one of India's greatest playback singers whose extraordinary career spanned more than six decades. Popularly known as the "Nightingale of South India" and affectionately called "Janaki Amma," she recorded more than 25,000 songs in over 17 Indian and foreign languages, making her one of the most prolific singers in the history of Indian cinema.
