Biography

Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao is the First Chief Minister of Telangana and the president of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, a Regional Party in India. He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Gajwel constituency of Medak District Telangana. Early life Rao was born in Chintamadaka village in Siddipet in Medak district. He attained a Masters in Telugu Literature . Political career He first elected as MLA in 1985 from Telugu Desam Party.He served as the cabinet minister.He never lost an election since 1985.He was a member of the Telugu Desam Party and served as Deputy Speaker until he resigned from the party. TRS party formation He formed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi for the cause of Telangana as a separate state. TRS fought the 2004 general elections in alliance with Congress. It was able to win 5 MP seats. TRS was part of the UPA coalition government led by Congress until it had withdrawn its support citing the reason that UPA was not in a mood to give nod for separate Telangana state. In 2009, it fought the general elections part of the opposition coalition. Hunger strike Rao began a hunger strike on November 29, 2009, demanding a separate Telangana state. Eleven days later, on December 9, 2009, the Indian government announced that the "process of formation of the state of Telangana would be initiated". Personal life K. Chandrashekhar Rao is married to Shobha and has two children, a son K. T. Rama Rao, a legislator, and daughter K. Kavitha. His nephew Harish Rao is Member of Legislative Assembly for the Siddipet constituency.
