Kanakalatha was a renowned Indian actress primarily active in the Malayalam film industry. Celebrated for her portrayal of both antagonistic and comedic characters, she graced the screens in over 360 films across Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada cinema. Her versatile performances earned her immense adoration from fans throughout her career. Personal Life Kanakalatha was born on August 24, 1960, in Kollam to Parameshwaran Pillai and Chinnama. She attended the Government Girls School in Kollam. At the age of 22, she married and later divorced after 16 years in 2005 Career Life Kanakalatha began her career as a theater artist before transitioning to television. With a successful debut, she seized remarkable opportunities, starring in numerous TV serials such as 'Paliyathachan', 'Preyasi', 'Sagaracharitham', 'Pakida Pakida Pambaram', 'Agnisakshi', 'Jwalayayi', 'Parinamam', 'Ente Manasaputhri', 'Devaragam', 'Sree Guruvayoorappan', 'Velankani Mathavu', 'Amma', 'Jalamohini', and more. Renowned for her versatility, Kanakalatha was among the popular actress in the Malayalam cinema adept at both comedy and serious roles. In addition to her television work, she portrayed supporting characters in notable Malayalam films like 'Oru Yathramozhi', 'Guru', 'Priyam', 'Kilukil Pambaram', 'Thumpoli Kadappuram', 'Aakashaganga', 'Aniyathipravu', and 'Mayilpeelikkavu'. Her last appearance was in the movie 'Pookkalam', directed by Ganesh Raj, which premiered in theaters on April 8, 2023. Death The actress, Kanakalatha, passed away at the age of 63 due to complications from Parkinson's disease and dementia. She breathed her last at her residence in Thiruvananthapuram on May 6, 2024. Kanakalatha had fallen ill in 2021 and was under the care of her sister, Vijayamma. Initially presenting with symptoms of sleeplessness, her condition was diagnosed with dementia in August 2022.
