Biography

Sreenivasan is an acclaimed screenwriter, actor, filmmaker, and producer in Malayalam cinema known for his satirical black comedies. He is most popular for scripting T.P. Balagopalan M.A., Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam, Gandhinagar 2nd Street, Nadodikkattu, Mukunthetta Sumitra Vilikkunnu, Varavelppu, Thalayanamanthram, Sandesham, Midhunam, Azhakiya Ravanan and Udayananu Tharam. As a filmmaker, he has made and scripted Vadakkunokkiyantram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala. Personal Life Sreenivasan was born in a small village of Patyam, to the east of Thalassery in Kannur, northern Kerala on April 4, 1956. His father Unni was a school teacher, an active Communist, and his mother Lakshmi, a homemaker. He completed his formal education from Government High School, Kathiroor and Pazhassi Raja N.S.S. College. He did a diploma in film acting from the Film Chamber Institute, Madras in 1977 where Rajinikanth was his senior by a year. He hails from the Ezhava community from where a lot of freedom fighters of India originated. Career Sreenivasan has began his acting career during 1970's . He has made his first debut with Manimuzhakkam in 1977. Later, he acted in the film Mela. By playing comic -centric roles in several films, the actor became prominent face among audience. Apart from  being an actor , Sreenivasan is one of the most favourite writers and directors in the Malayalam Film Industry.He started his debut as a script writer for the movie  Odaruthammava Aalariyam in 1984. Later he wrote the screenplay for films such as Odaruthammava Aalariyam, Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam, Gandhinagar 2nd Street, Nadodikkattu, Pattanapravesham, Varavelpu, Thalayanamanthram, Sandesam, Midhunam, Mazhayethum Munpe, Azhakiya Ravanan, Ayal Kadha Ezhuthukayanu, Udayananu Tharam, Katha Parayumpol, and Njan Prakashan among others. Many of his films portray common man issues like unemployment, poverty, corruption, and political concepts. As a writer, Sreenivasan always finds the stories for his films from his surroundings and tries to bring the new concepts in his stories. That is one of the reason behind his successful  journey in film industry. His  film 'Sandesham' is one of the best political satires in  India Cinema. After writing the movie Sandesham, he has recieved criticial appreciation and support from the people. And he also won Kerala State Film Award for Best Screenplay Category for Sandesham in that year.   As a director, he made his first directorial debut in 1989 with the film  Vadakkunokkiyanthram . The film starring Sreenivasan and Parvathy in the lead roles was a successul movie. The film won Kerala State Film Award for Best Film Category. Later he directed the film Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala in 1998. The film  gained critical appreciation and it became one of the highest grossing films in Malayalam. He won National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues and Kerala State Award for Best Popular Film for   Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala. Srinivasan has acted in morethan 200 films in his ong acting career life.  He was last appeared in the film Mera Naam Shaji, Kuttimama and Love, Action, Drama, Uriyadi.   Production Sreenivasaand actor Mukeshre launched  a production house named Lumiere Film Company. They have jointly produced Katha Parayumpol (2007) and Thattathin Marayathu (2012) and both the film were box-office hits.
