Biography

Suraj Venjaramoodu is an actor and stand-up comedian, who is predominantly in Malayalam Films. He has acted in more than 200 films in Malayalam Language and made his first debut in a double role in the film 'Jagapoga'(2001). Suraj won the National Film Best Actor Award for his outstanding performance in the film 'Perariyathavar'(2013). He is also known for his best-known roles in the films like Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum ,Android Kunjappan, Arabikatha,Finals, Vikruthi’ and Driving Licence. Personal Life He was born in 1976 to Venjaramood K. Vasudevan Nair and Vilasini in Venjaramoodu, Kerala. His father was a retired army soldier. He has two siblings, one brother, and one sister. His brother V.Saji works as an Officer at the Indian Army Office, and his sister Sunitha V.V is married and settled in her home town. Suraj completed his schooling at K.V.M.L.P.S, Venjaramoodu and he took a Diploma Course in Mechanical from Government ITI, Attingal. Career After completing his education, Suraj started his career as a stand-up comedian. Later, he made his first debut with 'Jagapoga' a comedic genre, released in 2001. Since then, he acted in several films like Dadasahib, Arabikatha, Ivar Vivahitharayal, Annan Thambi, Veruthe Oru Bharya, Gulumal: The Escape, Sakudumbam Shyamala, and Adaminte Makan Abu. In 2013, Suraj plays a lead role in the film Perariyathavar, directed by Dr. Biju. The actor has gained critical appreciation and accolades for his stellar performance in the film and won National Film Award for Best Actor in 2014. Later the success of Perariyathavan appeared in many movies in small and lead roles. As an actor, he has never failed to make a transition from slapstick roles to serious characters in his career. The films like Action Hero Biju and Thodimuthalam Drisksakhsyim showcased his best performance in serious characters. His stellar performance in these films, he proved himself a versatile actor in the Malayalam Film Industry. In 2018, the actor appeared in the films like Theevandi, Hey Jude, Njan Marykutty, and Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri. The films were commercial hits at the box office. After then, Suraj plays a lead role in the films like Vikruthi and Android Kunjhappan Ver 5.25 in 2019. His astonishing performance in these films broke the hero stereotype concepts in Malayalam Film Industry. In the same year, he won Kerala State Film Award for Best actor category for this films. The actor was last seen in the movies like Kanneakkanea, Jana Gana Mana, and Great Indian Kitchen showcasing how the actor changed his acting mannerism from comedy roles to serious ones over the years. On the professional front, Suraj Venjaramoodu will be next seen in Tovino Thomas' upcoming movie 'Narivetta'. Awards & Recognition Suraj Venjaramoodu won several awards for his best performance in Malayalam Film Industry. The actor is a three-time Kerala State Award Winner for the films like Ivar Vivahitharaayal (2001), Vikruthi, and Android Kunjappan Version 5.25, (2019). He won National Award for Best Actor for the film Perariyathavar (2014).
