Biography

Indraja (born Rajathi on October 17, 1977) is an Indian actress and singer who primarily works in Telugu and Tamil films. She has also appeared in a few Hindi and Malayalam films. She is known for her roles in films such as Sogasu Chooda Tharamaa (1994), Pelli Sandadi (1996), Rajavin Parvaiyile (1995), Nuvve Kavali (2000), and Engal Anna (2004). Early life Indraja was born into a Telugu Brahmin family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She is the eldest of three sisters. Her father, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, is a legendary Carnatic singer and playback singer, and her mother, Savitri, is a homemaker. Indraja was trained in classical Carnatic music and Kuchipudi dance from a young age. Indraja married businessman Mohammed Absar in 2006. They have two children, a son and a daughter. Career Indraja began her acting career as a child artist in the 1983 Tamil film Uzhaippali, starring Rajinikanth. She made her debut as a lead actress in the 1993 Telugu film Jantar Mantar. Her breakthrough role came in the 1994 Telugu film Yamaleela, which was a huge commercial success. She went on to star in several successful Telugu films in the 1990s, including Pelli Sandadi (1996), Choodalani Vundi (1998), Premante Idera (1999), and Nuvve Kavali (2000). Indraja also acted in a few Tamil films in the 1990s, but she was not as successful as she was in Telugu cinema. Her notable Tamil films include Rajavin Parvaiyile (1995) and Thadayam (1996). This south Indian actress starred in many Malayalam movies after her debut in The Godman in 1999. She continued to act in all major South Indian movies until 2006, when she took a break from the film industry to spend time with her husband and family. She made her comeback in 2014 with the Telugu movie Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya, and starred in many more Telugu movies in the years that followed. However, her 2022 Telugu movie Anantham, in which she played the role of Maragatham, was not as successful as her other Telugu films.
