Johny Johny Yes Appa Review: A Film With Comedy & Emotions In The Right Proportions

Kunchacko Boban has had a good year so far with most of his movies setting the cash registers ringing at the box office. Most of his movies have catered well to the family audiences. The story of Johny Johny Yes Appa revolves around a character named Johny. He is considered to be a perfect gentleman and his brothers are often targeted by comparing them with him. But once, a child enters his life and what happens rest in Johny's life is shown in the movie.

Johny Johny Yes Appa does serve its purpose of being a family friendly movie. It has to be admitted that the storyline or the events that unfold are anything new or unseen but the characterizations, the backdrop, etc., are indeed interesting, which give the film a freshness that is required. The first half of the film is indeed filled with loads of comedy elements. The funny situations and the inscribed sequences are sure to tickle the funny bones. In fact, the first half of the film is high on the humour factor. It is in the second half of the film that the movie shifts gear. The emotional aspects step in after a certain point of time in the latter half and the film moves to the serious zone.

Joji, the scriptwriter of the blockbuster movie Vellimoonga, has come up with a fine job here as well. But unlike Vellimoonga, Johny Johny Yes Appa is not a throughout comedy and there are dramatic emotional elements also to go by. At the same time, some of these sequences go into the melodramatic mode. Marthandan has neatly packaged the movie according to the requirement of the script. He has maintained the entertainment quotient of the film in a neat manner. However, he could have dealt with the transition of the tone of the movie a bit carefully.

Kunchacko Boban essays the lead role of Johny with ease. In fact, the character has some interesting traits and he has made the role an enjoyable one. Anu Sithara does complete justice to the character of the leading lady. Sharaf U Dheen, after a terrific performance in Varathan, gets back to the comedy genre with conviction. He delivers some excellent one-liners. Tini Tom too has come up with a fine performance. Sanoop Santosh was good in his role. Kalabhavan Shajohn makes a mark with the character role. Mamtha Mohandas and Lena do notable cameo roles in the movie.

Cinematography by Vinod Illampilly is good. Editing by Lijo Paul is decent but the second half could have been a bit more crisper. The songs in the film set to tune by Shaan Rahman add a good flavour to the movie.

Johny Johny Yes Appa doesn't boast of being anything unique or special, but it has some good and memorable moments to offer.
