Saagasam Movie Review & Rating: A Decent Entertainer!
Prashanth's Saagasam has released all over Tamil Nadu today. Continue reading our movie review to know what exactly does this flick, which is an official remake of Telugu film Julai, has to offer.
Saagasam Plot:
Saagasam is about a laid-back man, played by Prashanth, who according to his father is a good-for-nothing bloke.
His father's judgement about him irritates Prashanth, who reciprocates by challenging him that he will soon earn enough money, just to prove his worth.
In a bid to earn some quick money, he decides to collaborate with a gang of goons, spearheaded by a corrupt politician. This act, lands Prashanth in trouble.
What he does to earn money and get himself out of the sticky situation forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Being a comeback film, Saagasam is of vital importance in Prashanth's acting career. Not surprisingly, the actor has given it everything.
His performance and energy level in stunt sequences deserve a praise. Newcomer Amanda is not entirely convincing. To make things worse, romantic scenes involving her, look outdated.
Nassar comes up with a believable performance and so does Kota Srinivasa Rao. Their presence add value to the film.
Despite housing many comedians including veterans like MS Bhaskar and Thambi Ramaiah, Saagasam lacks high quality comedy sequences.
Technicalities:
What stands out throughout the film is Shaji Kumar's cinematography. While all the songs are shot in a colourful manner, camera angles while capturing stunts are impressive as well.
Though the overall screenplay is quite compact, unnecessary songs and old-fashioned romantic sequences might help you discover your virtue of patience.
Thaman's background score is very much relevant to what's happening on the silver screen. Editor Zashi Omer has done a neat job in keeping the length of the film under 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Overall View:
Saagasam has its issues, but the film does manage to entertain you in parts, making it a passable flick.
