Biography

Suraj Jagan is an Indian playback singer in Bollywood movies. He is noted for the song "Give Me Some Sunshine" from the award-winning movie 3 Idiots. The song has received numerous accolades and is a huge hit among the Indian younger generation. The song won him the "Best Emerging Male Performer" award in the Max Stardust Award. Suraj Jagan comes from a Rock Music background and was part of a band called "Dream Out Loud". His most famous song with this band was "It's Raining Now" which also had his close friend Chandresh Kudwa playing the guitar. The band is currently inactive. Progress Suraj Jagan also recorded for many ad jingles before making his Bollywood debut in the song "Hum Naujawan Hai" from the movie "Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi" in 1997. The song was given to him by Vishal Dadani who was one of the music directors of the film and is also a close friend of Suraj Jagan. Suraj's rise in Bollywood though was very slow and he only appeared intermittently from there on. From 2007 onwards, however, he started becoming more of a regular slowly but surely singing songs like "Hey Jhonny" from Johnny Gaddar, "Dil Lagaa" from Dil Dosti and "No Big Deal" from Money Hai to Honey Hai. He also sung the song Zehreelay from the movie Rock On where he actually performed the song as a part of the movie. He also played a part in composing the tune of the song and even had a short acting stint in the movie following the song. "Zehreelay" has been considered to be a trend setter of sorts in the Hindi music industry as it is considered to be the first out and out rock song in Bollywood. Give Me Some Sunshine And Subsequent Success His Bollywood career though took off with the song "Give Me Some Sunshine". Shantanu Moitra, the music director of 3 Idiots composed the song with Suraj Jagan's voice in mind. Shantanu Moitra even stated that if the movie's producers did not like Suraj Jagan's voice with the original composition he would change the tune but would not compromise Suraj Jagan as the singer of the song. Shantanu Moitra had apparently promised Suraj Jagan that he would make Suraj sing in one of his movies almost 2 years before "Give Me Some Sunshine" was recorded. Suraj Jagan stated that he had not really paid much attention to Shantanu Moitra's promise and was not really expecting a call. When he did get the call along with Shantanu Moitra's complete backing for the recording of "Give me Some Sunshine", Suraj Jagan said that "he will forever be grateful to Shantanu Moitra for that kind of unwavering support." Post "Give Me Some Sunshine", Suraj Jagan has consolidated his position in Bollywood lending his voice to songs such as "Rang De" from My Name is Khan, "Maula" from Hide and Seek, "Karthik Calling Karthik- title track" and "Tum Bhi Ho Wahi" from Kites all of which have been very well received by Indian music lovers. His song "Sadka Kiya" with Mahalaxmi Iyer from the movie I Hate Luv Storys topped the music charts. He has said that it is his favourite song in Bollywood so far.
