Zooey
Deschanel
might
be
a
poster
girl
now,
but
things
were
not
so
hunky-dory
when
she
was
in
school.
In
an
interview
for
US
Marie
Claire
magazine,
the
New
Girl
actress
told
how
she
was
ridiculed
at
school
for
being
chubby
12-year-old.
She
also
revealed
she
wasn't
always
popular
-
and
was
once
spat
on
because
of
how
she
looked.
Talking
about
the
incident,
Zooey
said:
"I
was
ridiculed.
I
really
don't
know
why
she
spat
at
me.
I
just
talked
to
her.
I
guess
I
wasn't
allowed
to
talk
to
her.
I
remember
I
couldn't
believe
it." As
a
result,
she
decided
to
transform
herself
over
the
next
12
months
by
losing
a
lot
of
weight
and
becoming
less
stubborn.
She
said,
"All
of
a
sudden
everybody
treated
me
differently.
But
once
school
was
done,
she
made
no
effort
to
keep
in
touch
with
her
tormentors."
Zooey
also
admitted
that
she's
happy
being
single
after
filing
for
divorce
from
her
hubby,
musician
Ben
Gibbard,
in
December.
And
that
she's
in
no
hurry
to
become
a
mum
either,
revealing
it's
never
been
something
she's
longed
for.
As
of
now,
she
is
content
with
her
flourishing
career,
as
her
US
sitcom
New
Girl
-
in
which
she
plays
the
lead
role
of
teacher
Jess
Day
-
has
just
been
commissioned
for
a
second
series
after
the
first
season
became
the
most
successful
TV
comedy
among
young
viewers
in
the
US.
