Siddham - review

By Super Admin

Jagapatibabu had a fascination for super cop's role. After having played an undercover cop in Homam, he plays a straight cop and an encounter specialist in Siddham. The film absolutely has no great story save for some action. The audiences would get a feel of watching an action serial on AXN channel.

Dayanand @ Daya (Jagapatibabu) is an encounter specialist at the Task Force with his team of officers. Daya loves Divya (Sindhu Menon)and marries her. They have a six year old daughter Harini (Baby Sivani). Daya kills more than 50 goons as part of his profession. His associate Saleem becomes envious of Daya's growing popularity. He starts killing people rampantly against Daya's wish only to match the count. Daya used to get threatening calls from a Dubai based mafia don, who, however appreciated Daya when the target was his rival gang members. DGP (Kota Srinivasa Rao) Daya's supporter retires from service and a new DGP, a pawn in the hands of Chota takes charge.

Once Daya gets information about Chota's arrival in India from Ashok (Subbaraju), Chota's right hand man. Daya decides to take Ashok to task and kill him. But the new DGP orders not to kill Ashok and produce him in court. He ignores the order and kills him. However, Daya makes everyone believe that Ashok escaped from police custody. During a marriage reception, Divya is killed and the Dubai don informs that Ashok might have killed her and that a rowdy turned corporator (Siva Prasad) might have helped him. Learning about the corporator's mafia links, Daya questions him. DGP admonishes Daya.

Daya resigns and kills the corporator. DGP issues shoot at sight orders against Daya. But the police men, who know Daya's sincerity, turn against the DGP and Saleem. When Saleem plans to encounter Daya, the other policemen kill him. Later, Daya kills the DGP also. Learning about this Dubai mafia don promises to extend support give shelter to Daya in Dubai. Daya reaches Dubai and kills the don but reveals that he had realised that it was he who was behind Divya's death. He also informs that he had already killed Ashok and no one knows the secret. Upon the retired DGP recommendation, the home minister gives back Daya his job and so he continues with his mission.

PLUS:
Jagapatibabu has the fascination to play the cop's role and he has literally lived the role. He has got a different hairstyle, a typical style among police officers. Sindhu Menon is good as a housewife and is okay as the heroine. The director was able to choose the apt artistes in the film. All the artistes have done complete justice to their roles. Like his mentor Ramgopal Varma, JD Chakravarthy too does not believe in a particular story. So the film seems like an action serial in AXN channel. The choreography of action scenes is good. The director has been able to present the encounters realistically. The cinematographer Bharani K Dharan has capturd the mood of the hero and his emotions in different scenes like action and sentiments well. The screenplay plays a key role in the movement of the film. There are no songs in the film as it would spoil the mood and tempo of the film.

MINUS:
Though the film is good, it throws a bad light on the police department. Of course, all the scenes are almost in sync with the present day society and reflect as to how the police behave, with the logic missing in various scenes. The dialogues penned for the film are colloquial. A police official bribing the police and informers is in bad taste and the director has tried to justify that the police are underpaid and that they need to be bribed. Likewise, the hero's journey from India to Dubai has been shot in such a way that it seems so easy to travel from one country to the other without valid visa and passport.

ANALYSIS:
The film has nothing much to talk about. It was made only to satiate the urge of the hero to play super cop and the director has tried his best in making use of some scenes of Ab Tak Chappan, a Bollywood film released in 2004. Though not very boring, the absence of a gripping story, few comedy scenes, and no entertaining values fail to entertain the audiences. Those who like action films will be happy to watch the film, but not every one. It is typical police film with a lot of gun fire and action. On the whole the film appears like an action episode.
