Issaq Movie Review: Feels Like A Half Baked Dish

Rating:
2.5/5

Manish Tiwari's Issaq is said to be inspired by Shakespeare's classic Romeo and Juliet. But Alas! the film neither narrates a great love story nor offers any brilliant performance. Though the story has nothing good to offer, the makers have captured Banaras beautifully.

Story
The story of Issaq revolves around two political families of Banaras- Kashyaps and the Mishras. Both the families are at loggerheads. One day Rahul Mishra (Prateik Babbar) meets Bachhi Kashyap (Amyra Dastur) and falls for her. Slowly the infatuations between them turns to love. The two innocent lovers hope that their family will accept their love one day and will forget the bloody past between them. But the story is not just about their romance. It has some reckless bloodshed and a Naxalite angle to it, which was not at all required.

Performances
Well, we expected a lot from Prateik Babbar, who acted brilliantly in films like Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na and My Friend Pinto. But, he looks totally misfit in the role of Rahul. On the other hand, newbie Amyra Dastur is pretty good, given the fact, this is her first film. She looks beautiful in the movie.

The two actors, who are worthy of praise are Ravi Kishan and Rajeshwari Sachdev. Ravi Kishan played the role of Teeta Singh in Issaq. He is undoubtedly the show stealer. Rajeshwari Sachdev did full justice to her role and has given a solid performance in the film.

Other actors like Makarand Deshpande and Neena Gupta have hardly anything to do in the movie.

Music
The music of Issaq is good, specially the song 'Issaq tera'. 'Issaq tera' is a soft and soulful number sung by Mohit Chauhan. The sound of the flute used in the song is very soothing to the ears. Songs like 'Jheeni re jheeni' and 'Bhole chale' are also good. The songs in the movie are well placed and does not look forced. All thanks to music composers Sachin-Jigar.

The screenplay of the movie is inconsistent and too many sub-plots spoiled the show. However, the cinematography and photography are good.

Verdict
Sadly, Manish Tiwari's Issaq fails to create the Romeo-Juliet magic. The movie has many loopholes and the soul is completely missing. We would suggest you to skip this one as it's almost a torture to sit and watch it for two hours. We will give Issaq 2.5 stars. 2 for the movie and .5 extra for the music.

The only thing good about the movie Issaq is its soulful music. So, instead of watching the film, just buy a music CD.
