Mollywood Debut Directors Who Impressed Us In The Year 2016 So Far!
The year 2016 so far, has been a good one for Mollywood in many aspects. The number of hit films have increased in comparison with the previous years and more importantly, most of the films turned out to be quality works.
Another aspect for which Malayalam film industry can be proud of is the increasing number of debut film-makers. Many new talented film-makers have made a mark in this year so far.

Dileesh Pothan
Maheshinte Prathikaram, was a film that explored the capabilities of a simple storyline. Most of you would agree to the fact that the film is one of the best in the recent times and the brilliance of Dileesh Pothan has been written all over the film.
Omar Lulu
Not many would have expected a small film named Happy Wedding, to make it big at the box-office. Omar Lulu, who captained the film, showed his expertise in making a perfect entertainer and he definitely finds a place in this list.
Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan
Lens, directed by Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan did receive glorious reviews upon its release. The director took up one such subject with due social importance and moulded it into a thriller, which wouldn't make you bored even for a second.
Khalid Rahman
Anuraga Karikkin Vellam is one of the best feel-good entertainers in the recent times. Khalid Rahman, brother of renowned cinematographer Shyju Khalid, went on to do a splendid job without showing any inhibitions of a debut film-maker. The film received praises from critics as well as audiences.
Shanavas K Bavakutty
Much was expected from Shanavas K Bavakutty and he rightly delivered the goods. Kismath, the directorial debut of Shanavas K Bavakutty, has hit the right chords and the writer-director deserves a grand applause for the good work.
Johnpaul George
Johnpaul George came with a small movie Guppy, which so far has won the hearts of the people who have watched the film. The director is receiving praises for his craftsmanship and hopefully, more honours would come in the way of the director in the coming days.
In the past two weeks, Mollywood witnessed the arrival of two debut directors in the form of Johnpaul George and Shanavas K Bavakutty. Their films Guppy and Kismath respectively, have been receiving glorious reviews from the critics.
Many more young film-makers are in the pipeline to make their debut this year. This week's release IDI, starring Jayasurya would mark the debut of actor Sajid Yahiya as a director. Actor Soubin Shair is also making his debut as a director, with an upcoming film titled Parava.
It is also a positive sign to see stars opting to do films of debut film-makers. Prithviraj's upcoming film Ezra is being directed by debutante Jayakrishnan. Similarly, Mammootty's next project would be directed by debutante Haneef Adeni.
