The year 2016 so far, has been a good one for Mollywood in many aspects. The number of hit films have increased in comparison with the previous years and more importantly, most of the films turned out to be quality works.

Another aspect for which Malayalam film industry can be proud of is the increasing number of debut film-makers. Many new talented film-makers have made a mark in this year so far.

Johnpaul George came with a small movie Guppy, which so far has won the hearts of the people who have watched the film. The director is receiving praises for his craftsmanship and hopefully, more honours would come in the way of the director in the coming days.

In the past two weeks, Mollywood witnessed the arrival of two debut directors in the form of Johnpaul George and Shanavas K Bavakutty. Their films Guppy and Kismath respectively, have been receiving glorious reviews from the critics.

Many more young film-makers are in the pipeline to make their debut this year. This week's release IDI, starring Jayasurya would mark the debut of actor Sajid Yahiya as a director. Actor Soubin Shair is also making his debut as a director, with an upcoming film titled Parava.

It is also a positive sign to see stars opting to do films of debut film-makers. Prithviraj's upcoming film Ezra is being directed by debutante Jayakrishnan. Similarly, Mammootty's next project would be directed by debutante Haneef Adeni.
